On topic, any sort of decent FM8 patch with any sort of decent ohmicide setting will get you the same sort of smans growl you're looking for as long as you EQ and apply other effects properly and take your time on it.
Post example.
Do it yourself?

I'm away for a week and I only have my laptop with me even if I did wanna spoonfeed you how to do it.

EDIT: There's more than enough information throughout this thread to teach you how to make the basic patches you need in fm8

Yeah with some processing, (light distortion, some high-end reverb, etc.) and backed by some good drums/sub bass this could sound really nice.

Its true though, so many posts/youtube tutorials "claim" to teach how the Skrillex growls are done... but no-one ever gets quite there, there's always the caveat "with more tweaking/modulation/effort etc etc this is basically Skrillex"

I'm open to better examples.

I also never said that with a bit more tweaking it would sound like SMANS. I never even claimed that I could make it.

And considering I spent about 20 minutes on it i'm pretty happy with the result. :D
NEW SONG listen please:)

I'm not having a go at you man, it was a good effort tbh.

It was more of a general comment on a lot of people (specifically PillowFight above) saying you can get the "Skrillex sound" with a bit of FM8 know-how and some distortion & EQ.... but to this day theres been very few producers (of course imo) that have done stuff as good.

I suppose. I mean I got that sound through experimenting anyways because pretty much all tutorials on growls are terrible.

Hm. I've always used bad fm8 patches with bad ohmicide settings. I never thought about using decent ones so now I tried it and it works great!

Thanks

You're welcome bro, glad I could help you out.

I was saying that in response to everyone like talking shit about how skrillex magically made these awesome growl sounds out of nowhere. He probably just practiced a lot with FM8 and used ohmicide as his distortion plugin of choice, so therefore if you do the same you should be able to copy him, if for some reason you wanted to do that.

Big ups man, that's tight. I need to get on that remix too. Where you located btw? Kalmar here, east coast represent.

This is now officially the Sound Design forum chat thread btw. I'm declaring it. Fuck the system

This may sound like weak advice but don't synthesise vowel formation.

Do you mean, don't make it talk within the synth? Not sure if I got you right....

Man it's a regular Swedish Dub Mafia up in here huh?

Yeah that 'synthesize vowel information' confused me as well. I've always been unclear on the concept of FM synthesis and growls, what parameter to actually modulate to get the growling bit. I'm guessing you automate one of the modulators inside the synth but I never could be arsed to pick it up even though I bought FM8 for that exact purpose. It's all very intimidating. Btw Smile I sent you a PM, check it brah.

Smile, bro that is some gnarly shit - more details pls. :P

On the topic of that remix - I'm having a go too, so far I've only used the vox and the glitchy vox, I cba with the rest of the samples. Gone for a bit of a disco vibe on it and basically remade the track :6:

Think i've almost cracked the Scatta bass. Didn't do exactly the same pattern as Skrillex because that would have took a long long time but nevertheless:

I also didn't do the sub bass, can't really be bothered:/
NEW SONG listen please:)
