Re: Hidden Messages In Mass Market Music & Popular Culture
Are people shy to the fact that money drives it all?
Liking your stuff about the Egyptians and the nature of opposites adding to power! Easy to see how this crept into the religions (along with many other aspects: virgin births, the sun, the trinity etc etc) and the modern pop market is just milking that genetic hangover for the syndrome to isolate and worship
As for the riot thing... The businesses probably just twigged on at the benefit of appealing to rebellious kids and extend the market further. Much like why so many companies used the Guevera stamp! Invitation for conspiracies, but the two blatanet options are enough
Conspiracies or no conspiracies, popstars and celebrities are of little concern to me. Fame comes in better forms (R.I.P. Hoffman)

yo,Pistonsbeneath wrote:you are very disappointing at times lloyd..
you seem intelligent when discussing other subjects...
you repeat the same tired challenges that can neither be refuted nor proven right as they are the red herrings of choice when it comes to this...
history is full of prominent people using symbolism...read the holy blood and the holy grail and you will find numerous examples of that
I just don't understand the significance in the use of symbolism in popular culture in regards to how much it troubles you guys. Contexts are always applied to symbolism, that's surely the point? You can apply any meaning that fits, nasty or nice (I see Lady Gaga sitting on some toys cos it suits her mentalcase image).
Do you think there is something sinister about it all?
Re: Hidden Messages In Mass Market Music & Popular Culture
Aye, but it either means nothing or it means something. And who here would say that what they do is meaningless?
This is neither time or the place.

animals in the zoo who don't believe the signs on the wall really say anything because they've always believed it was "just" decoration.

Riots have been a pop mainstay for ages.

Errrm....no. Answer my question truthfully.64hz wrote:so your saying that they are inciting people to riot?dreamizm wrote:When you switch on Sky News and you see people shouting and protesting outside Tory HQ or innocent civilians getting pushed and mauled at the G8 riots or thousands of people marcing at govt cuts in Greece, then you switch over to MTV and see Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye running around in Gucci balaclavas doing the same thing.. how do you feel about the world's problems?64hz wrote:what do you think the purpose of the 'anarchy and riots' symbolism is?
pretty shit move for 'tptb'.
I don't know the answer, I am trying to help you think for yourself. Which is a lot more important.

I really like BLAHBLAHJAH's reading of things, but I have to dispute above.magma wrote:... and the same reason why the Beastie Boys used one in Sabotage.BLAHBLAHJAH wrote:As for the riot thing... The mood and timing in my 2 examples are completely different to 'Sabotage' - which was a 70s cop pastiche if i remember correctly!? Haven't seen too many pop videos with full-on riot 'themes' pre-credit crunch, care to venture a few examples?
