cloud capture wrote:"As far as I know, it's more the music of video game nerds. A lot of first person shooter "frag" videos feature dubstep as the music, and a lot of the sounds are sampled from games."

Just saw this on a random board and thought it would fit perfectly here.
it is true though -w-
though it's usually jakwob, skrillex. mt eden or whatever the first thing that pops up as dubstep on youtube is on the vids

I was doing drum programming and virtual instruments on a pop track for a friend of a friend...started working and realized that he hadn't been keeping time when recording, and the tempo was not constant. I tried to explain to him why it was impossible for me to program drums without a constant tempo. I asked him if he recorded the track with a metronome, and he said no, then asked me if I could "put the metronome back into the song."

I had no idea how to respond

i mean i started this thread so that we could all share a laugh, not cuss eachother out over little misuses of words...'looping' instead of 'repeating the pattern' ??? how is that something to "facefuckingpalm" to? And Whats wrong with saying that alot of dubstep uses distorted basslines? its true! There's no way that I was suggesting that all dubstep is the same, i was simply stating that the use of "basses" is commonly found in dubstep songs. I don't know why you guys have such a problem with me stating that fact. Are you afraid to admit that theres sound design involved with dubstep? Are you ashamed of your basses? I realize that theres tons of different kinds of dubstep and hardly any of it is the same. I wasn't stating otherwise
biggest troll in zee world?
fine...i give, just quit responding its annoying. i didnt mean to annoy you guys or anything. i dont know much about technical side of production, so im sorry if i dont know the terminology you guys use...like ive said before, i still consider myself a noob in the dubstep scene cuz i only been doin dubstep for 2 or 3 months. i apologize for wasting your time :( I just thought I was starting something that would be fun for people to add to, but it mutated into a hate fest. I guess ill just go back to hiphop. thanks for the 'help' DSF...i certainly won't be wasting any more of your precious time
homie, some of the stuff ur sayin is just a tad bit contradictory and off, but ur fuckin 15. u just gotta have a litle thick skin man dont let what ppl say bout u piss u off, we all got our shit and unfortnately it ends up being taken out on each other, which in turn creates more shit and so on. just grow some balls, especially on the internet man, everyones a fuckin dick on online lol. just think a little more before u speak. all shall be well.

There's no such thing as over compressing something
- Some idiotic j-dilla obsessed hip hop producer replying to my comment which said something along the lines of ' don't over compress them otherwise they will have no dynamics and be really flat', on a mate's status about drum bus compression.

I actually got a screencap of the status and some of the hilarious comments that ensued. One of them was something like 'J Dilla invented over-compression'. I deleted it off my desktop ages ago, wish I hadn't now lol, some of the stuff he came out with was quality!

Me too, that is genuinely amazing.

Do you think that hip hop forums have to put up with new users asking how to be J Dilla week in week out?

"If it sounds good on Yamaha NS10's it'll sound good on anything"

Paraphrased as...

"If it sounds good on anything it will sound good on Yamaha NS10's"

Thus entering the realms loosely defined as.. total and utter nonsense.

Call me sad, but I was genuinely interested in what kind of other crazy shit he wrote, like in his status' etc (or would that be 'stati'? Lol), so I added him. Had a laugh correcting him on a few other more funny comments. He turned out to be one of them guys who gets people to take pictures of them while they're posing looking thoughtfully at their MPC, or with their feet up on a mixing desk that they clearly have no idea how to use, and isn't theirs either. The term 'all the gear but no idea' sprang to mind haha.

I think another comment was like 'digital is shit its all about analogue blah blah blah' to which i replied something along the lines of 'tbh the music industry and a lot of bands and artists would not have come through too well in the last 2 decades if it hadn't been for things like being able to track digitally to Pro Tools/ Logic/ Cubase etc, recording to tape is fucking expensive you know right?' Then he said something like 'no one makes real music anymore they record a piano player in a room and then put a fake reverb on it to make it sound like a live recording'. LOL. I did point out to him that recording a piano player in a room IS a live recording anyway, not to mention 'fake' outboard reverb like the lexicon pcm91 doesn't get moaned about much at all due it and its successor models being some of the most popular reverb units in the industry/ world. I don't know many people that still use actual mechanical spring or plate reverbs in this day and age lol. I also mentioned the fact that convolution reverbs use real impulse responses recorded from actual spaces to influence the sound and response of the reverb. I think that one went over his head though, he said 'what the hell is an impulse response no one knows what you're talking about. I thought the statement 'no one makes 'real' music anymore' was a little rich coming from someone who sample's other people's music into his MPC. He deleted me in the end.

I'm sick of fake reverb. Next time I want a nice big sound on a lead synth I'm going to re-amp it into St. Pauls Cathedral, get some real big reverb on it. LOL.

"man that synth sounds so midi!"

:corntard:

generally people not knowing what the fuck midi is.

or after i told a friend that his channels are ALL clipping and that he should at least try to do something barely resembling a mixdown:
"dude let me do it that way, this is how i make music i dont wanna read all that technical shit and sound like everyone else", spiced up with an obligatory "and your stuff is always so quiet maybe you're the one doing it wrong"
