nah i totes can. Sampling something original is an artform IMO, especially if its cutting up a small section of vocals, adding effects/ pitching up and down, basically creating a new vibe/ piece of music. Someone then comes along and copies this- btw adding nothing new and keeping exactly the same vibe- its just shit and lazy.
well then consider this - most hip hop, especially late 90s early 00's used a lot of straight sampling of instrumentals. No modifications, just a sample of a nice instrumental break used in accordance with their own beat/bass

Does this make all those produced songs "badly produced" simply because the producers didn't think they needed to add 5 layers of different kinds of reverb, chorus and a noise modulator effect over every sample?
Personally, I don't think so.
Yes. Have you ever sampled anything? Did you check that the song you were sampling didn't contain any sampled sounds? This is the only true measure of a producer's integrity.

First off, that is absolute rubbish. Stoupe uses straight samples of crazy wood instruments and flutes etc all the time. Are you telling me his production is shite despite the fact it is seriously dope and he still uses a lot of resampling on top of the straight samples?

It's like saying the beat for Can't Touch This is shit just because it's a straight sample.... it's just not a very justified way to reason things.

with regards to the bolded part of your statement... this is only given by your arbitrary judgement....

There's too much subjective reasoning going on in this thread.

electronic music sampling shocker!!!!

quit drawing imaginary lines around sampling. to sample is to sample, simple as. all of our favorite artists do it so get over it and just remember to have fun.

haha.

Well yeah theres lots of subjective reasoning here cos its a pretty subjective topic. Whichever hip hop artists youre talking about probably change the vibe of them samples theyre taking, or if not put a new spin on it. Now if a fellow producer at the time took one of their tunes and ripped a bit out of it then IMO thats worse than the original sampling, simply because its one of your fellow producers and you know, youre taking genes from within the same pool.

I'm not trying to make a new law up or anything, just stating that imo this bit of sampling is wack and unoriginal.

Apart from some not being a fan of The Game in the first place (along with most mainstream rap), my 2c on the sampling is its just too recent of a tune. 5 years is still in my "rip-off" timeframe. And i agree, pitching up a loop is less acceptable than chopping it and changing it. Overall, just a very uncreative way to make a track.

I was excited when I heard this. Now people are gonna check out Mala, then other producers. In my imaginary world, I'm seeing rappers collaborate with more of the deeper dubstep producers. Probably not gonna happen, but it would be dope if it did.

That's what YOU set yourself on.

Sampling is sampling regardless of the 'timeframe'.

There is no rules, this thread should just be locked really, and about that comment
so all you whitebread mayonaise eating kids who decided to start making dubstep in 2010 wont get it. you all come from a place where everyone uses the vengeance sample packs for drums, and sampling dark and mysterious dialogue from movies off youtube is like your version of crate digging. you just wont get it.
PFFFFFFFFFFFF, Maybe not everyone born in the 90's knows what a turntable or a cassette is but please, don't think some of us don't dig in crates for vinyls and sick samples that's rubbish, vengeance pack or not, that's just you assuming, plus INTERNET sampling is just a progression or new way to do it, that's like spitting on a new technology for the sake of destroying a culture hence no new culture would be created.

Mostly drum & bass and hardcore. First time I made beats was when I was 14, all hip-hop. Used to spit too.

There's just this thing called logic that is severely lacking in hip-hop. And logic says that sampling = sampling. The moment you say 'LOL UR NOT X SO YOU'LL NEVER GET IT' is when you start telling people off for being objective and not immersed in senseless dogma (which is also kinda rampant in dubstep with that pretentious and overly conservative soundsystem culture worship).

I did say MY. Because thats my opinion. Thats what im here to do really, talk about stuff. And yes "sampling is sampling", none of its right or wrong, in the grand scope of things, just sayin what i think. People can like it, i dont care, im just not on that same boat.
