Kanyes dilla rip off beats were okay, the guys as important to hip hop as Datsik was to dubstep though, who was also pretty widely regarded.SCope13 wrote:it's pretty well known as being a good place to talk rap. Do you have a time frame for when these changes would materialize?

kanye is 100x more important to hip hop than datsik was to dubstep
Wether you like it or not he's hugely influential. He's not the best rapper or the best producer in the world, but he puts out consistently influential shit.
And he did make some fucking gorgeous beats back in the day, didn't sound THAT much like dilla anyway. Just used vocal samples a lot like him. That Game - Dreams beat is an all time fav.

Re: Changes
Datsik influenced dubstep, sure, but only once, and alongisde excision, borgore, rusko, etc. Kanye influenced it with his type of beats in the early 2000's, really popularized non-gangster/booty oriented rap in the charts again, introduced the whole wave of electro house type beats and shit with stronger (this is maybe a bad trend, but still, very novel in 2007), carved the path for Drake etc with Heartbreak & 808's, and Yeezus is just a great album that doesn't really sound like much else, especially not in mainstream rap.DiegoSapiens wrote:and datsik haven't influenced dub step? He's not the best rapper or the best producer of all time, like I said, probably not close, but he consistently has a huge influence on hip hop and popular music as a whole.

pretty depressing
close it down dubway
it's had it's day
which isn't to say that I won't miss it
& the ninjas
but sometimes you've gotta walk away & move on
and you & the mods have to do it
because there'll always be some addicts who can't let it go
really,
you'd be doing us a favour
really
do it.

Re: Changes
honestly i think most people sign up for the production forum. i don't think many people sign up for a forum just to talk about dubstep. it's more for learning, asking questions, etc for most people (at the beginning anyway) and then they participate more in GD or SNH. so i think the key to bringing in new people is improving the production forum.

The production forum used to be so banging. Certainly how I ended up here. The production forum has suffered from that over segmentation, imo. Just got cut up into pieces until there was nothing left.

Re: Changes
yeah me too. i have the feeling that's how most of SNH ended up here, sans a few people of course, the ones that don't produce. but is it just a coincidence that like 90% of SNH are producers/djs? i think the root problem is long-time users not participating in the production forum, which is for a few reasons:
1) too many bro questions & completely inane shit
2) the incessant flame wars, immaturity, etc. basically just a shit culture. no one wants to be that poster with 1000s of posts who still doesn't know how to compress, and knows they'll get flamed for asking, so they avoid it.
i think the only way to improve the production forum is to drive ninjas back over there

Re: Changes
Maybe if you segment the production forum into genres, and then into subgenres if need be, that will get a little cleaner. As well as a more general section for tech stuff/reviews etc.
You could appoint members, not necessarily moderators, for it and have them go into all sections to help question askers. Like have them make 3 posts per week in each section or something.
