The thing is people who aren't deep into 130 wouldn't know it's about the certain vibe not the bpm.RKM wrote:like it or not, seems that 130 as the name has stuck, doesn't bother me i immediately know what someone's talking about if they say that. trying to retroactively stick a name on stuff will not work. at this point it seems to describe a certain style more than a fixed bpm.

I really feel think the same people who make this argument are same people who back in the day dissed early dubstep as oh it's just garage with fewer vocals and more bass. Stupid imoultraspatial wrote: this sorta self-referecing to past nuum genres being the reason it's dissed ("it's just dubstep/grime/funky")

I remember when benny first made this thread, told him to change the name cos I knew this was gonna come up. 130 just more concise than "a thread about basically the regular producers dusk & blackdown play on rinse".ultraspatial wrote:yeah, thisehbrums1 wrote:I really feel think the same people who make this argument are same people who back in the day dissed early dubstep as oh it's just garage with fewer vocals and more bass. it's definitely something new imo. but it's also too splintered to be something cohevise. plus you also get straight up grime things that get lumped together

Drum & Bass - There's more than drums and bass in it. How is Digital Mystikz - Haunted not drum and bass? How do we know that it's roughly 170 bpm?
Garage - Did they only play one type of music in the Paradise Garage nightclub?
Dubstep - So much dubstep has no dub production techniques in it, and some of it even has vocals!
Rock & Roll - Yet to see the relevance of aggregated minerals to primarily guitar based music.
Hip-Hop - Very little hopping involved, if any.
Jungle - Most of these bods were from the UK, there's no jungle there.
Face it, nobody will agree on every genre name, and it really, really doesn't matter either way. People still take the piss out of the term "dungeon" but everybody knows what it means. The people that say "x genre name is stupid" probably would've said dubstep is a stupid name where they involved in 01-02. EVERY genre name is stupid on some level, but it doesn't matter. If everybody knows roughly what you mean when you say it, it's a success.
Just ignore all the predictable mongs that come in and say "lol 130". People that aren't involved in the scene will never know, same way old people just all electronic stuff "techno".

I'd say you're pretty close.ultraspatial wrote: is this "movement" a genuine evolution of the nuum after all these years or it's more the case of trying to find some cohesiveness in what's going on today whilist clinging to the nuum's mythology?
