About Kanye:mIrReN wrote:With you on this! Really liked some of Tyler/iggy/chance/underachievers, wouldn't rate Joey but I'm just not too fond of his music, could you give some good ones from the other ones (highlighted them)Soul Of Seun wrote:Earl Sweatshirt however IS an elite lyricist and Tyler the Creator is dope as well. There's also Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, Joey Badass, Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Azalea Banks, Iggy Azalea, Angel Haze, Chance The Rapper newer artists who are all gifted and waiting to break into the mainstream. Kid Ink is decent as well.lol no, just fucking no, you can't state things like this it's fucking personal taste/preferenceSoul Of Seun wrote: As far as mainstream goes, there is still a lot of talent. Kanye West is the best rapper/producer combo in Hip Hop period. I don't care how you feel about his personality. His music is boundary pushing, innovative and he can spit like very few. Whenever Kanye drops, it's usually an album of the year contender. I don't have to mention Jay-z who is a legend (Magna Carta was meh though). Nas is a legend. Busta Rhymes is a legend. Eminem is a legend. J Cole is great, Wale is solid, etc. etc.
Fucking bullshit, everybodys preferences are different and you just can't say "if you don't like this or don't like this then you mustn't love hip hop".Soul Of Seun wrote: There is so much diversity and acclaim in modern hip hop right now if you don't like at one of the newer rappers, well then I question how much you love hip hop because it has progressed so much.
Well It's not just my personal opinion. It's the opinion of many of the top professional music publications/critics. For example:
MBDTF is so far the most acclaimed hip Hop record of the new decade (Starting in 2010) . On average, MBDTF had the highest number of positive reviews and highest average rating. Metacritic, based on 45 reviews gave it a score 94. No other album from a rapper/producer was even in the 90's. El-P was closest ( with a rating of 85 on Run the Jewles based on smaller sample of reviews). Billboard, Spin, Slant, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Time rated MBDTF as album of the year 2010 for ALL music genres. Also his other albums Yeezus, College Dropout (score of 87 voted album of the year by Rolling Stone, Spin, and Village Voice) and Late Registration (scored 85) were all rated nearly as high. Also Notice how I didn't say Kanye was the best rapper or producer. I said he was the best rapper/producer COMBO. That is, of rap artists who produce AND rap on every one of their albums he is the best at juggling both tasks. But I should have made that clearer in my original post. I would put Danny! Black Milk, and El-P also in that contention for the best rapper/producer. But Kanye is consistently rated higher than those artists. El-P is only rapper/producer who comes close to the level of critical acclaim as Kanye.
As you can tell, I put a lot of stock in aggregated professional reviews, much more stock than the average Joe's opinion from down the street, because professional reviewers listen to more/ a greater diversity of music and know more about the music making process and industry than the average fan. And when most of the major critics are saying the same thing, I pay attention. SO that's where I get Kanye as the best rapper/producer. You understand where I'm coming from?
EDIT: I mean Kanye is best currently not all time.
Again, I should have said modern Hip Hop from the past decade for clarity as that was what Hugh was railing against. My mistake. Also, I never said he had to like those rappers specifically. I used them as examples. Hugh said he couldn't name a song in the past decade he liked and didn't rate newer artists at all. I named several new artists. What I'm saying is if you don't like ANY Hip Hop of the past decade, you probably just don't like (modern) Hip Hop because there are many talented artists today and a person's inability to recognize the current artists of a music genre, will greatly preclude them from listening to that genre.Fucking bullshit, everybodys preferences are different and you just can't say "if you don't like this or don't like this then you mustn't love hip hop".
And Here is some Joey Bada$$:

Re: What Hip Hop Song are you listening to?
Damn I wasn't saying Kanye was best all time. I meant currently. I was never crazy on Dilla as a rapper. (He still got busy at times). But Dilla is a legend obv. All time best rapper producer was maybe Dre? Always thought Dre was a dope rapper too. Not sure if he's a writer though.
I take that back. I'd say RZA was the best rapper/producer. He was a more charismatic and idiosyncratic rapper and just as capable a producer.
But DJ Quick was a better rapper maybe?
