Does anyone else ever think that suuuurely, if you played a die hard brosteppah cyclops by distance...or the v, or innasekt - archetype, or miserere by ruckspin and co or a whole host of other, proooperly heavy tunes that some kind of simile of the cavesque veil would be lifted from their eyes and they would greet the real world with "oh...that was all shit wasnt it"? Just...like...suuuurely. I mean come on brosteppers, distances remix of swish...

I try not to divide a genre into sub-genres because I listen to / appreciate all forms... so I often come off as ignorant hahaha

i dunno mate, some of my mates who listen to some frankly awful brostep listen to some of the music i do (because i force it upon them) and i think they do enjoy it but when it comes down to it they always seem to want more disgusting mechanical noises, growls, women screaming or whatever and so they just go back to it. different strokes for different blokes i guess

in general i find brostep too ridiculous to be "aggressive". its like a hyperactive kid coming at you with a water gun. kinda cute really but mostly just annoying

It's not that hard to actually understand why, unless ur just picking up fights. Electro subgenre has been around for (relatively) longer time than dubstep, and dubstep is -still- the fresh stuff. It's all marketing, in 2011 and maybe 2012 more people would click on a newsflash- / buy a newspaper with article- called "xy the prince of dubstep" than "xy the prince of electro".

i would say brostep is the lest aggressive of all, if we're talking about the ability to move rooms etc, but when were talking about the music being aggressive, the deeper stuff is made for a purpose, brostep is just people trying to out do eachother with sick wobbles!

and on a general addition, a few of my mates who enjoy brostep but don't at all consider themself dubstep fans just never get into tearout when i play it.. but it's not like they're running around saying skrillex is the worlds best dubstep producer.. they've been educated

haha yeah, sub bass is so important to me, generally when i mix LIVE at a club... all my tracks are very sub bass heavy and i guess i play mainly what you would call "tear out".... but when listening on my laptop speakers I obviously cant hear when the sub bass is missing so Im okay with brostep. I just did a DJ mix that heavily features some brostep (havent uploaded it yet, probably up on tuesday)... i personally wouldn't play most of the tracks LIVE but for djing at home // videoing said DJ sets, i see nothing wrong with it.

but the rest of it is awful too. in fact i'd say lack of sub bass (whether perceived or actual) is the least annoying thing about brostep, some of it has literally no structure to speak of, just like 20 different "drops" in a row each with a new and ever more nonsensical super mario robot optimus prime synth squelch, and so focused on the "build-up" to these "drops" the tracks just revolve around it (like i just listened to half a dozen random UKF tracks and they all started with strings and some idiot chipmunk singing, before the nastiest ass kick and snare come in to build up to... THE DROP). that's not always bad, e.g. i love jump up dnb but when you have four hundred x that per song it's just kinda...

I wonder why people say Skrillex isn't dubstep lol. May not be the dubstep you like, but I don't see any reason why tracks like Cinema aren't dubstep.

As far as i'm concerned, if its 140bpm, has kick on 1 and snare on 3, and has a bassline, its dubstep. Like any other genre, there's a wide range of styles now, and will probably be more in the future. But i for one, am glad that dubstep has evolved, and we're not still listening to the same stuff from a few years back.

For anyone who whines about Skrillex, go listen to your old tunes, they're still there, they're not going anywhere. If you don't like him, don't listen to him, don't read threads about him etc. Its getting kind of cliché to hate Skrillex nowadays anyway.

Totally agree with render on this one - good music will sell itself. Most amateur producers make shitty music, and wonder why they're not successful. They'll bang on about not having the right contacts, successful producers getting lucky, any other reason that they're not famous. But the truth is, they're just not good enough and need to work harder.

I've personally sacrificed loads in the past year or so. I've stayed in when i could have gone out having fun on many occasions and been really disciplined. Its very hard to make decent music, and i know if i ever want to get there i'll need to be really devoted. I have the utmost respect for anyone who has made a career out of music, and someone like Skrillex just blows my mind. Not only has he had worldwide success, he's virtually reinvented a genre. It makes me sad that so many people disrespect his achievements, it shows how ignorant a lot of people are. As producers, even if you hate his music, you should be able to respect his skill and creativity.

I don't think it's a problem to be successful nowadays if you're making real good tunes. Its probably easier than ever due to the internet and things like soundcloud and facebook. But you do need to be good and devote a hell of a lot of time and effort to get there.
