Hi guys,

this is the first dubsteppy thing ive done now for a long while - i'm mainly looking for comments on THE MIX.

i'm working with new monitors with bigger cones and a better (flatter) response - so i'm slightly worried my mixes arnt translating too well as im not 100% used to them.

Mainly concerned about bass levels, and percussion levels interacting with the rest of the mids and highs in the track.

idea is once i've got the mix right to finish the track - i like it sounding clean before I add more elements.

Hey yall! This is my second attempt at producing something almost acceptable. Im new to dubstep and producing via computer, but im eager to learn and ive been trying to soak up as much knowledge from here as i can.

Any help/hate/comments/tips/crits are greatly appreciated! Dont be afraid to go hard on me, i gotta learn somehow!

===================

@project_b: nice chill track, but to be honest it doesn't really sound like a dubstep tune. maybe that's just me though.

@hakka: possessed- creepy soundin shit man! i really like that deep bass i'm hearin.

@dubaholix: chill track as well, but i agree with you, it sounds like it's missing something. adding another melody could help that.

@olux: fucking sick. reggaestep? i can dig. drop is gnarrrrly. i could kinda agree with whoever said the lead up to the drop is a little long/needs something to add more tension. nice job nonetheless

@pumice: chilltastic, i just stared off into space and nodded my head for the whole song. i like the dark and creepy samples goin on too.

@jaydot: (eyes wide shut) damn you don't fuck around! i personally appreciate intros, but i might have to make an exception for this song. roughly around 1:15ish it seems a little repetitive or something, but it's a WIP so it's understandable.

@gombles: i like the little sample, definitely think it's worth adding on to. i like the violin/string instrument in the background, if you add some filth to it i think it would sound awesome

@ Holda - Hey dude, Sounding good, Like the beats, nice bouncy kick throughout. I'm thinking the bass might be a bit loud that comes in at about 50 secs and again later.

@ Slink - Hi Slink, sounds like your definatley getting the hang of it. I would love to hear it again though with the bass turned down a bit. I thought from what i could hear the drums were great, sounded like it was all working well together with the samples etc. Once that's sorted out i think it will be a mean second attempt at dubstep! well done.

@ Project B - Hey, so feedback on the mix? Thought the bass was a bit loud. I would probably take it down a touch. Other than that nothing stood out to me.

@ Hakka (posessed) - Hey dude, Like the feel of this track, got some sweet vibes going on. Especially like the busy beat. And is that a Timothy Leary sample i hear? Love that dude, pretty sure he sais BLANG pale emotionless face too. hah brilliant. Really enjoyed this track :)

@ Dubaholics (rooted) - Hey, not alota feedback i could think of for this track, havent really heard alot like it. I definately fell deeper into it the longer i listened. I am a sucker for anything tranced out though :P I agree that it may need another melody, maybe even some fancy percussion just to break it up a bit. As for the mix, i did think the main reverse lead in the second bit could come down a bit.

*** I'm no mixing expert so you'll have to take in to account my feedback on mixing is not based on professional training and therefore may be tainted with harmful information, if undesirable mixes persist please see a doctor ***

If anyone can give feedback on my new one would be appreciated :e:

@Olux
the roots vibe is where it's at. And really liked the stepped up bass that kicks in. After chilling and smoking that got me mental.

@dubaholix
Nice dubbed out chillness. The overlapping bass hits sound a little harsh on my sub woofer, but I'm relaxing to this.

@willyryan
haha, the jeapordy theme is cracking me up. I like all the different layers of that melody. And the samples of Alex Trabec are priceless.

@hakka
I like the drums a lot. Nice deep and dark groove, reminds me of Distance or something off mu. The delayed breath sample that comes in here and there is real nice.

Just uploaded a test copy of something I'm working on for a friend of mine. Going to burn a cd to test out in the ride, figured I'd share it here as well. Influenced by Dubstep

@hakka: Really nice work, the sub bass is nice and deep, drums are fine, no real criticisms for this one from first listen, loving the dark vibes always

@Olux: Nice juxtaposition between reggae and dubstep. I got a bit bored waiting for the drop though, if there's anyway of cutting that or adding more tension then it would improve the track, still, WIP....so plenty of time for changes. :)

Here's a really rough WIP of mine:

@ Olux - Cheers for the kind words man, and it is indeed Timothy Leary! Right to your tune, yes! loving the reggae vibes, reminds me of UB40. Absolutely love this man, in comes the wobble! Need a 320 of this! Cant fault anything about that!

@ pumice - Thanks mate. Love the VOX at the beginning of your track, them rising bleeps are nice, the main synth could do with a better arranegement, love the way the track hangs, really spacey. Sub could do with coming out a bit more on the lower side, try cutting the hi end a bit on the bassline and add some reverb or / and a bit of delay, not much. Great track though, definately kept me interested!

@ J-Dot - Great ideas man, bass is clipping hard, hurting my ears. Love the stabby synths. That main synth drowns everything out. Percussion is nice, add a few rides in there and some reverse crashes. Will keep checking and giving you some feedback.

Cheers for the feedback guys. Makes all the hard work and hours sitting in the studio worthwhile! If anyone wants a 320 pop a comment on soundcloud and i will link you when i have EQ'd it properly!
