@ Tripwire I like the wholesome 808, but it feels too big to me. I like the sound of it but it takes of too big of a chunk of fq. when it hits. feels out of place to me. Also the cymbal tap in the intro needs to be detimed, its a little bit of a groove killer, but again, i like the idea. Bass line sounds good and the mallet esque thing that comes in is beautiful.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
RightOnTime27: sick intro, it's supposed to be like a submarine right and the bleeps are the radar? I really like the beat and drop as well :p
jmc23: good start, you need to change it up a little though because it gets repetitive you know, also I think it would be sick if you made your bass a little more deeper :p + really liking the snare on your tune
DLOGREZYRB: really liking it, I like the keys and the voice samples, seems almost carnival like to me haha everything sits really good together and compliments each other good tune!
jak-a-tron: dark tune! the bass is sick! ( lol it does sucks when u get skipped for feedback huh!! )
alright, I got a little time to work on mine before school this morning so check it out and lemme know what you think, trying to change it up a little in the 2nd half of the tune so it stays fresh ! (still haven't fk'ed with the drums yet XD )
Soundcloud
oh and to the last page, to get the soundcloud player you gotta tag it, so like [.soundcloud]www.soundcloud.......[./soundcloud] <---- without .'s

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
RightOnTime27 Really nice intro, man... Nice incidental sounds, and the drums have a real feel of movement. Only thing I'm not feeling is the sluggish wobble- Kinda drowns the rhythm, but the super-fast lfo bit is interesting.
ogunslinger wobbles aren't really my cup of tea, but the mix sounds clean and I like the subby "whoosh" and 'verb that gives everything some nice space. Could switch up the drums a bit more though as the kick/snare thing could be a bit repetitive, and the hi hats get a little lost
Planning on rinsing my uni loan for some much needed monitors in the next few weeks, so this might sound a bit weak...
Opinions?

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@Tripwire, this is a sick riddim for 30 minutes work. a big dub reggae style sine bass 'walking up' the scale would work well i think. sounds like it just needs a breakdown, a phat second part, and a proper outro. Maybe some echoed out guitar skanks incidentally, just a few throughout the whole track. i recorded almost every common and uncommon chord of guitar skanks when i got my interface, but haven't used any yet! let me know if you need samps
@ogunslinger, sounds like your basses just need some sculpting with the plugins you're using if any, and with the EQs. Throw a high rate chorus on a short bassline right before your part1/2 transitions and automate the dry wet, to rise and fall, gives it that metallic sound like a sword coming out of a sheath. doesn't always work though. use more effects!!! also the 808ish snare you got needs some backup layer that bitch!
@RightonTime27, nice big emptyish intro. it reminds me of an early liquid stranger track, cant remember the name. SUB ATTACK! your sub bass eats the whole track up, maybe sculpt it with filters/eqs, then a compressor so the sound comes through in the right area nice and flat. the percussion is interesting, nice delay/roll work. my ears want a high lead or rhythm part, some sort of synth key, maybe a sporadic arpeggiator pattern playing triad minor chords in the piano roll. you can get really interesting leads just moving single notes in a chord out of place a few spots doing this!
@jmc23, this is a pretty chilled out tune. i used to make these type of tunes all the time, simple keys bit, drum loop, wobbler. it's good practice and it doesn't sound at all as bad as the ones i used to make (for example in my sc, "Sparks" from last year). The mixdown sounds good, the drums and key sample choices work really well together, but as you probably know it is still pretty bland. don't stop Searching or Working dude, your style will come soon. /follow
@Sirens/Jemgrover, i like the duality of the bongos and bleeps at the start, but it kind of drudges on from the main drop. play with your emptyness to allow reverb/dub delay fun. a sub bass played once with a long release might work well, you can also automate effects/pitchbends/volume edits while this one bass rings out for a while.
@thebender, this needs a proper intro (possibly with melodies or rhythm) so it has something to fill up/drop into. all of your basses need sculpting and sound like they are fighting for volume. bring them down and make them more earcatching with automated effects without having to be damn near 0 dB. Alot of these basses sound like straight up vengeance or sample magic basslines too, i'd recommend changing them up to your liking, but you can do what you want i guess.
sketched this one out in an hours work, in the middle of the night, when i knew i had to work early today.
The second bass tone (four note rise thing) fuckin sucks, i know i'm already changing it, so ignore that part.
besides that, feedback is appreciated

Tbh honest i liked the four note riser thing. The fist chord you're like wtf mate? but then the second chord you use sounds dope and it gives the tune a fresh feel. Tbh i'm not a fan of piano's in dubstep. They give it this pop ballad feel and it just sounds like its taking itself to seriously. Bass doesn't strike me as anything super special, but the rythm to the lfo occilations is dope. Trying to implement your advice about a lead synth and its proving to be difficult, not finding anything that sits with the tune, once I get something I'll put it up.

jemgrover: pretty chill track dude i like the snare/rimshot

streetxlite: yo pretty sick tune dude, not really my style you know but honestly I think it would sound better without the arp that starts around 1:09 I think

@rekstep
nice spooky intro. love stuff like that bro. glitches sounding cool in the intro, very atmospherikkkkk. some heavy wobbles goin on there sounds sick. sick drop at 2:17. wicked track man. sounds tight too.
@streetxlite
nice piano work man, those strings could do with bringing thru the mix a bit more i reckon. snare could do with some more high end, sound nice already tho. try it and see if its better. string work is cool. only farse, is the bass. it just doesnt seem to fit with the rest of the track. its too mechanical for the rest of the track. nice ambience all the way thru tho.
@jemgrover
nice chilled track here man, lovin the bongos. good stereo field on them too. that sub is niceeee. making me feel warm. maybe bring the snare out more, not too much tho to overpower the track. good job
this one i started today, just whacked a preview on SC. tell us what u think. safe guyzzz

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Perosnally I love this track as it is very atmospheric but I think that you should slightly turn the sub up as it is very subtle and with minimalistic/atmospheric tracks like these I think to create a good sub could really do it some good, luckily yours sounds good enough I just think it needs to be turned up slightly as it may help you win over a completely different audience. Is there any chance of adding some calm ocean sounds as in my personal opinion I think it would go well with the track but it's upto you as you already have a good piece of production here. Overall though I really like this.a.paul wrote:@ibscotty thanks for the feedback! really loving the minimal side of the tune. love the bass work, and percussion really stands out.
@rightontime27 love the build up and drop. really different tune. id maybe turn the kick up at the drop to add some "umph" if thats how you spell it. love it though, cant wait to hear more and thanks for the feedback.
Soundcloud
made some changes, turned sitar down abit. added hats at the drop, changed snare and stuff. let me know if you think it fits better? and does the sub sound okay, unsure about it.
cheers and thanks again.

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
@unitedfruits - i like the intro mate sounding solid but not too sure about the drop and the multiple bass sounds but maybe thats just me as i like to stick to the same sorta sound. drums are sounding good plenty of variation. good effort mate.
@narrator - nice drums on intro i like the hi-hats there sitting well. i think maybe ur mids needa be brought back down into the mix, they jus stand out way too much. i like the bass at 2.06 its sitting more at the level u want i think, just my opinion.
@Tripwire22 - I really don't know where you can go from here mate! sounding pretty good for half an hours work. i think maybe ur snare is too clean for the style your going for. maybe a more rougher snare with delay might fit well. just a suggestion.
@ogunslinger - like the drum layout mate could maybe be switched up a little though and turn the hi-hats up a tad. you could maybe use a different sound synth for the intro and breakdowns or reduce the cut-off. would make it sound less repetitive
@thebender - nice sound you got goin for a beginner mate.definatly need a proper intro and a few delayed fx throughout maybe. you could compress you kick it needs abit more 'umph!' i think.
@streetxlite - loving the tracey style intro. the piano sounds pretty smooth on this mate. synths sounding pretty tight. I see what you mean about the second bass tone, just doesnt sound right. before the second drop you could maybe drop the synth for 4bars then bring in again at the drop for a more dramatic sounding drop. good work so far though
Would just like to say thankyou to everyone who has helped me along with this track thus far and i have taking all the feedback into consideration and used it to improve it as much as possible.
Any other feedback would be more than welcome.
Thanks

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for SEPTEMBER, 2010
Hey guys new to this forum, been producing for about a year and a half now, and a buddy recommended posting my stuff on here for feedback, etc...
This one is almost finished, though Im having trouble with the sub bass, to me it sounds too "separate" from the wobbles but I'm not sure if I should link my sub bass to the wobbles so they 'feel' the wobbles too, or keep the written out basslines. ...And any other suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks in advance
Also I tried pasting the embed code from the soundcloud player but it would only come out as all the chicken scratch. so heres a link :/
Anyone that can help me also alleviate this problem would be great too!

@ RightOnTime27 Its very clean, well Eq'd, the only thing I could really say I would change was maybe make the snare more prominent in parts, but other than that, you got a good vibe goin on
@ jmc23 Maybe try layer the snaps maybe 2 or 3 of the same, and put them a tiny bit off each other, but on the same beat so they sound full. Like the vibe, nice and chill, relaxing for sure. A tad bit repetative, but you got something going there definately.
