if you fall in that bottom 20% it appears at the moment you are destined to just be pretty rubbish at sports/exercise etc.

no. physiological. benefit. that covers everything right? said this like 4 times now lol
Thing is, it doesn't make sense. It's like saying that 20% of the population won't improve at all at playing piano after they do it every day for a month or that not everyone's fingers build up callous when they use their hands a lot. Building muscle is your body responding to the damage done to them and improving them to cope with that damage in the future. It's a very basic property of your body. Like building up tolerance to stimulants after prolonged use. Some people may be more apt genetically at building muscle than others, but giving no response at all is highly unlikely.

I'll watch it later, but from reading about this on a number of fitness forums, this only covers aerobic exercise which is general cardiovasciular exercise like, FOR EXAMPLE, long distancer running as opposed to short distance sprinting which is anaerobic. And it's said to present the facts in a rather simplified and misleading manner. As I said, though. I'm going by what other people say, but it simply does not make any physical sense either. But thanks for the link.

Edit: What I'm saying is. What you would be arguing is that if someone were to be paralyzed from the waist down for 5 years and lost the necessary strength to walk and if they were suddenly cured, it would be impossible for them regain the capabiliy to ever walk again if they fall in that '20%'. And that's simply put absolute bullcrap.
watch the doc then come and argue

im saying what im saying because thats whats in the doc

im inclined to agree with you since thats what i thought also, but yeh, their results seem to tell a different story, could simply be aerobic results they are on about, i watched it a while ago

but also think about the amount of people who train just as hard as professional athletes and essentially are exactly the same as any one of us, you reach a certain potential and cannot surpass it, for some people that potential is just very low, to the point of negligibiity

hypothetical examples in this instance are entirely meaningless since real life results seem to show evidence for the contrary - which imo makes perfect sense; if there's only a top 20% who can become 'the best', there is a likely to be a bottom percentile who make up 'the worst'

Nope, I'm trying to put on weight;

Target weight is 200/210, but will see.
Just want it in the right places

Up until 3 months ago, I was in the same game. Metabolism's a bitch!

I think I might kinda fall into this category. It takes me forever to gain anything in the gym - I think I've become very slightly stronger in the past year (I've upped my weights by a mahoosive 5kg), but I'm essentially still the same weight I was ten years ago. Stamina-wise I'm fine when I use the cross trainer or rowing machines (or even jumping around overactively on the dancefloor), but I still run out of breath very quickly when I try to run. Having said that, it has been very difficult to get gym going into a routine thing for extended periods due to work and illness. My ex-housemate was more dedicated, and runs very well, but he has similar difficulties putting on muscle too.

Why does going to the gym make your eczema worse? Fortunately for above housemate, it doesn't seem to affect him.

Ah good to see there are some other skinny people in here. You know you have a problem when you can't get past 10 odd stone :o Although I can attribute that to my awful routine which I'm pretty sure then leads me to have a small appetite.

Just found your routine on the other page wub, and there is just no chance I could stick to something like that. There are days when I can go all day without food until dinner, not good.

Actually, I eat a horrendously large amount of food for someone my size. I do need to split my food intake into smaller meals though, but I've never really had the snacking/grazing impulse growing up.

I'm guessing it's something to do with the sweat and my shirt rubbing against my skin. Shits got pretty out of control lately my back feels like its on fire the whole time.

It really annoys me though because I used to lifeguard at Virgin Active, go to the gym 3 times a week and i was in really good shape. Now I'm just a lazy fat slob who sits at his desk eating hench bags of nandos crisps :i:

I feel your pain, kinda. I've got psoriasis on my scalp, every time I get too hot I end up nearly ripping it off with my nails. If anyone has suggestions to help, that'd be much appreciated.
Sorry to de-rail the thread.

Ouch! Wear something body hugging that won't rub so much maybe? Or, wrap your torso up like a mummy to stop the chafing!

How can I tone up the front of my thighs? The back of my thighs are toned, but not the front.
What can I do, in terms of sport? I'm not really fond of the gym.

Nanni/sinestepper: my Dad got psoriasis pretty badly for a couple of decades... it's amazing how much less now he's retired actually - stress was clearly a big factor - so I guess doing hard exercise or getting overheated could cause a flare up. Sweat does make you itch whether you've got a skin condition or not though... it might be the extra scratching making it feel like a flare up rather than actually being a flare up... if you scratch your sweaty scalp, it'll flake no matter who you are...

The best thing to treat it seems to be good doses of sunshine. He had years on various steroid creams, anti-histamines etc, but tbh, spending every summer in shorts and no shirt was the only genuinely effective treatment he found. The best things he found to make it feel/look better were plain ol' apricot scrub and e45 cream.

I get it a bit on my shoulders if I'm stressed ('pparently it's hereditory :| ) ... at the moment it just gives me the excuse to spend an hour in the shower exfoliating every now and again. I LOVE THAT SHIT.:U:

Pin Up: Try wearing a tight-ish undershirt, perhaps? Not only does it stop chaffing, you'll also be sweat-patch free unless you're raving on the surface of Venus..! I pretty much always rock a Uniqlo heat-tech t shirt under whatever I'm wearing... but it's mainly because I'm paranoid about getting sweaty pits!

Haha I am also pit concious! I've tried the tight T-shirt thing before, it helps a bit but it makes my skin burn like a mother fucker.

To be honest I've had pretty bad eczema all my life and it never used to stop me going to the gym before, i just need to stop being a lazy fuck and get bacdk in to the swing of things. Would like to be able to go topless this summer without feeling like a whale!
