Nice one, but it would be even better if your sub bass followed the pitch pattern as your reese! Also if you could layer some more reese on different frequencies to fill it, it would be much closer to Noisia's reeseB-Frank wrote:Nice Reeses Toolman4 and Mattb123.
I've been going for something a little more subtle where I've been listening to a fair bit of Noiisa, Calyx etc.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
I've been playing a lot with neurofunk-style bass stabs, in deep dubstep tunes (think biome, soap dodgers.etc.) - with mixed results. Only created one so far that really fucking bangs, the others are "ok". The thing is, it's super hard to duplicate it once you find something you like, so I just keep practising. # of effects to achieve a given result is ridiculous - some of them have in excess of 40 effects (the one that worked really well), and about 3-4 levels of resampling.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Eat bass - personally I'd ease off on the flanging more than anything, bring it down by 10-20%. You want your effects (generally) to be quite subtle, so that you can barely hear them by themselves, but they all add up to this monstrous sound. Nice notched work and automation though

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
yeah your right. once i made the initial patch i put a decently heavy flanger on the entire track. then i frequency split distorted/compressed the lows and put a shit ton of fx on the mids and highs as well as another flanger on the highs. i believe i should remove the flanger initially on the entire track.subfect wrote:Eat bass - personally I'd ease off on the flanging more than anything, bring it down by 10-20%. also thanks for noticing the notch work. i basically have two notches floating opposite ways right passed each other with each note. i also have a very light lfo to cut off and light vibrato.
it sounds a bit muddy to me, actually it sounds a lot better on my monitors/ultrasone cans but on my laptop speakers it sounds like a big muddy mess. I'm not the best at picking out frequencies to cut unless they really stick out like a sore thumb.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
If you think it sounds muddy (I personally don't think it does), you subtract a bit around the 500hz markEat Bass wrote:yeah your right. once i made the initial patch i put a decently heavy flanger on the entire track. then i frequency split distorted/compressed the lows and put a shit ton of fx on the mids and highs as well as another flanger on the highs. i believe i should remove the flanger initially on the entire track.subfect wrote:Eat bass - personally I'd ease off on the flanging more than anything, bring it down by 10-20%. Your own problem on that sound is the distortion on the low-endrymebox wrote:Sort of a cool Reese thing I made last night...

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
yeah i find 450 tends to be pretty muddy. but another reason why it was muddy was because i freq split at the beginning then added a bunch of effects which causes frequencies to go beyond those freq splits, so i again added filters well eq to each band again after the effects and tweaked some as well. maybe you can give me some pointers on the new one. ill post or send it in a bit. like i said i never make reeses so i kind of suck at them at the moment.subfect wrote:If you think it sounds muddy (I personally don't think it does), you subtract a bit around the 500hz markEat Bass wrote:yeah your right. once i made the initial patch i put a decently heavy flanger on the entire track. then i frequency split distorted/compressed the lows and put a shit ton of fx on the mids and highs as well as another flanger on the highs. i believe i should remove the flanger initially on the entire track.subfect wrote:Eat bass - personally I'd ease off on the flanging more than anything, bring it down by 10-20%. edit: heres the same one but changed a little bit (took out some flanging, filtered after fx, messed with some distortion, etc) i still don't think it sounds right but i can't tell right now cuz i listened to it too much while editing shit

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Here's how I do it. use 2 oscs that are either sines or squares. detune them each in opposite directions by about 25-35%. You'll hear it but you'll notice the amplitude goes up and down and isn't stable due to phasing. Send both oscillators to filter 1 and hipass them to remove the low end. add a third non-detuned sine to fill up that low end and send that to filter 2 and lowpass it slightly. I would personally lay off any chorus of flanging fx unless you split your sub on a different layer apart from the 2 oscillators.
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
well a split the freq so the low band isn't really doing much if any modulation.Undrig wrote:Here's how I do it. use 2 oscs that are either sines or squares. detune them each in opposite directions by about 25-35%. I have to say the best thing that ever happened to my Reese sounds was the Tone2 Filterbank
