So on one side you've got an incumbent who has been bloodied by 3yrs of economic crisis, but has managed to maintain a relatively good grasp on things. And on the other a 50% tax rate rich guy. Unless there is another war happening by then (Syria/Iran) I reckon it'll come down to economic perception.

He was referring to the congressional members and donors of the Repubican party....and the lack of enthusiasm for Romney is evident in almost every news and radio broadcast across the country (when your party motto for the 2012 general election is "anyone but Obama", you know youre in deep shit). As far as your statement goes, hardliners will always be hardliners on both sides, partisan people / states will vote for their party regardless of who is running. If you want any chance in hell of winning an election you always target swing voters...moderate people who typically arent engaged in politics, that might lean towards 1 side but dont see themselves commited to a person or party. There is zero buzz for Romney within this group...and we havent gotten to serious ad campaigns for Obama yet (who has a huge cash stockpile saved up...consider that with how much Romney has spent just trying to win the primary) which greatly influence swing votes.

I agree with the slander, but that isn't unique to the Republican party. The Democrats do the same exact thing. That's American politics for you. And it wasn't any better back in the day (1800's). This election would be seen as tame and civilized compared to the personal attacks that were thrown around back then.

i read a funny history book once that said back then the shit was more like "he's a closet satanist who knocked up 3 chicks besides his wife!" or "he's murdered innocent men"

but to be honest, i prefer that shit to what we get these days. Back then it wasn't as hard to understand the allegations. People shot people when they feuded. Shit got real. there were rich old politicians with special interests but there were a lot more men who had shit in common with the people they govern.

Today its like well, in 1999 he voted AGAINST the bill to support aid to a motion to DECLINE military action in HNNGNNGGGGGGGGG.. well HE voted FOR the bill in 2002 that said the opposite of what I chose to support until I opposed it and failed policies HNNNGGGG

The worst part about that is that a lot of times, Politicians will slander a person for voting for a bill because it did x (slightly bad thing), but doesn't mention that x was just a hanger tagged on to the bill, and that it also did y (many good things). They know that the general populace won't look into what the context was, and take it at face value. I absolutely agree with you, but the problem is that as Americans (obviously not you and I personally) we just eat that shit up. It's amazing the effect that smear campaigns can have, even if they use only half-truths or quotes taken out of context.

America likes going to war; I don't know why, but it does.

Being an American I've come to mainly think that it's because most of us have no frame of reference for what war is really all about. There hasn't been war on U.S. soil since the 19th century and we're all brought up being force fed this idea that war and being a soldier is all about G.I. Joe adventure and bad-assery. The television news here is utterly useless and we never get to see any real suffering that arises out of all this nonsense, we just see wide shots of "bad ass" explosions and are told that not supporting our various wars is basically the same thing as treason.

I'm not making excuses mind you, it makes me sick how ready to drop bombs on people a lot of my fellow countrymen are.

Politicians here seem to think blowing things up makes for a good distraction from domestic issues too and in my experience they're usually right.

i see your point but IMO it has nothing to do with how any of us view or glorify war. We can vote all fucking day and night and won't stop them from putting us in wars. The military action is congressionally approved because of the military industrial complex and the financial incentive of attacking places that have resources.

Academi, aka Xe, aka BLACKWATER and Lockheed Martin make fucking ridiculous cash and kick it back to the guys who push us into military action. their lobbyists flood Washington with cash and top shelf pussy (expensive hookers. no, not a joke).
