dunno how you can manage that mate. first time i did acid i tried to get my laptop out to put some tunes on, next thing i know my laptop is on the floor and ive got my knee through the screen. didnt actually realise i had broken it for a few hours because i was unable to see physical objects, and i was too busy eating grass anyway.Feral Witchchild wrote:I've done a few trax on acid. I've done an assload of tracks while blazed. I've done an assload of trax while sober. I feel I got the best results sober, usually, or like if I made the basis for the track while fucked up and then went back to develop it while sober.
by doing weaker acid of course... shame about your laptop though, must have been some good shit!

agree with you on some points but i dont agree with you about weed and drugs killing music, people have always produced a lot of mediocre material from music to films and games think of all the gangster films made and people still always talk about the same few filmsyellowhighlighter wrote:very interesting topic actually. even though it's a simple question the way that people answer speaks volumes about their attitude towards music.
i play piano and love scratching (turntables) so when i sometimes do this i used to be stoned as it helped me get into another frame of mind. when playing an instrument it's actually a lot more organic and you therefore flow a lot more with it, but at the end of the day music still obeys rules and you generally have to follow these rules if you want to make something that sounds good. i used to record myself playing keys over a beat for about an hour and maybe i'd get a couple of cool bars. being in a drug induced state helps open your mind to patterns that you normally wouldn't think of but it does not increase your technical ability.
that being said if you need drugs to expand your mind and "think outside the box" (in regards to forming musical ideas) you should really start learning more about music and music theory.
when it comes to actual sit-down musical production i don't think that drugs are a good idea at all. the reason being is that a lot of electronic music is pattern based. and you are a lot more likely to be satisfied with creating patterns that are not up to scratch. this has been the case of electronic music for the past 20 years.
go on the internet and listen to tracks on any website for any genre. 99% of them are mediocre at best. that is because people are happy pumping out sub-standard productions, and a lot of the time that has to do with their own state of mind when producing.
i don't mind people smoking and i love weed myself but i hate people who define themselves by the drugs they take. what i hate even more are people who deny that cannabis is harmful to you and even go as far as to say that it can be beneficial. that is honestly really laughable and a lot of those people who think that are those stoner arty type wankers who are happy to put out any bullshit out and then collectively jerk each other off.
drugs are killing music.
no one has really proved that cannabis is harmful for you, smoking is and smoking more than you can handle is especially if you suffer from metal illness.
weed is beneficial in certain ways. when I had a wisdom tooth removed my doctor (knowing i already smoke) told me to smoke weed instead of taking the painkiller prescribed to me
oh and i dont think many rastas would be happy with you calling them stoner arty type wankers lol
no one has proved smoking cannabis is harmful? how many smokers do you know mate? you just give it a few years, watch a couple of them slowly go mad. i was saying the same sort of shit when i was fresh faced and 15. 5 years on and lord knows that shit is harmful.

When producing & composing, straight soberness. When DUB mixin, straight blazing honestly see no point in dubbin without lambs bread. The fact that sometimes you actually forget to push channels up or have that nasty dirty delay on 100% feedback & leave it inna mix for a minute.
Kids don't do too much sugar!!!!!!!
Mastering- you need fresh ears to do this, also have respect for those who smoke and those who dont.

I don't know, I find acid to be pretty casual (though I certainly would not want to talk to members of law enforcement at length while on it), something like that would likely happen to me if I tried fucking with tunes on shrooms, though.
Has anyone tried producing on E?

skunk is not to be messed with, believe. hash is a slightly different story, but ultimately, to coin a massively overused phrase, 'drugs are bad'
mmmkay

I have a couple of mates that smoke quite regularly and we've been doing it for a while now. The bad damage I see is that smoking too often makes you enjoy boredom. And this can hurt things in the long run. It stops being about plans for the future and more about the now. simply put it just makes you a lazy ass.
I reckon that being stoned can bring amazing things to your productions, but its almost like being stoned uses a sort of 'creative juice'. When your sober and experiencing new things and having experiences your mind stores all this fresh input which is put out in creative flow when your stoned. If you get into smoking regularly your mind runs out of this 'juice' and you end up staring at a screen for a while playing the pulse width modulator on a single oscillator B)
sort of a weird way of putting it, but i just finished a smooth scoob
