In july in Paris too he did a show where he started with dubstep and jumped up to dnb and then came back to dubstep ... some indus stuff, some of his stuff, dnb, back to dubstep ... I couldn't id the dubstep tunes but it was dubstep from the future, sometimes very deep, sometimes vey very heavy ...
That guy is a wizard.
That guy is a wizard.
Amon Tobin has been dropping dubstep for over two years now. If you check the freebies section of his website you can find two mixes that feature a lot of dubstep. The one from 2007 features stuff from emalkay, broken note, starkey, venetian snares etc. I saw a couple of times, and it just keeps getting better each time. Also the intro to the solid steel mix part 2 is one of a the sickest productions I've ever come across, you should check it out in the foley room live mix.

Never mind the vinyl purists, if they want to stick to outdated technology, then fine, but projecting those values onto others is childish. o.oyong wrote:when I do this, I'm told I'm being fake and should use vinyl.-boring wrote:

I have no problems with vinyl at all, since vinyl masters tend to sound better than CD ones (though CD, by spec, should be much better suited for good masters than vinyl, it's a pretty perfect medium), but this vinyl conservative elitism is really silly. Vinyl will die out sooner than later simply because, at its core, it's not that great of a medium for storing music compared to some other mediums and desperately keeping it alive for elitist purism is just keeping people in the past unnecessarily.

Too bad for them. I am sure the DJs rocking the edison cylinders back in the 1850s hated on the vinyl DJs as well.

yeah - nice idea but travelling around with vinyl these days is both a hugely explensive option and pretty dodgy if you are don't have a work permit for certain areas.yong wrote:when I do this, I'm told I'm being fake and should use vinyl.-boring wrote:

why do you put out your music on vinyl if you can't even be bothered to rep it yourself? not a great example to your fans is it.
so many poor excuses for not using vinyl these days
1 - because it weighs a lot, surprisingly!
2 - I do not put my music out on vinyl,my label does.
3 - I actually buy shit loads of vinyl (always have done and always will do) and used to do 4 deck scratch deejay sets with my pal Buddy Peace. I don't use Serato myself, i was just adding some thoughts about the quoted comment. BUT i do use Ableton Live for playing out with as after going from two piece 4 deck sets i wanted to do able to do more then just 2 or 3 deck sets on my own. This is where Ableton came in - allows me to perform somethin between a deejay set and a 'live' set, cutting up loops playing 4 or 5 tracks at a time etc.....

When you do it, it is fake and you should use vinyl. He's Amon Tobin. He doesn't even need to play music. He could stand in a room with music that just happens to be playing and his name recognition would sell more tickets.yong wrote:when I do this, I'm told I'm being fake and should use vinyl.-boring wrote:

He is a beast though. Actually Yong is kind of a beast as well.
