I need to know how they are because if they're not good I'm going to sell my mpk And use my notation remote sl and padkontrol. Is the sensitivity close to the padkontrol after the fat pads? Can someone comment on the functionality of them specifically? Thanks
Edit: Pads are now in.
Eat Bass wrote:i've had the pads for about a week guys and i can definitely say they are worth it. they're basically just as sensitive if not a tad more sensitive than 6 layers of electrical tape. but they are far more consistent than the electrical tape and also more playable being softer and able to hit from any place on the pad. highly recommended. they just work. i can now bang out triplets and it pics up every hit as fast as my fingers will go. also, the color is okay, i got it to match the lights under the wheels and buttons, but it doesnt look so great with the red. I may paint my MPK one day and then it will look dope.
i just made this tune this morning with the pads. they inspired me to do some chopping. the first 8 bars are played on the keyboard, then i resampled, chopped, laid on the pads, and played a new melody for the second 8 bars. i think its quite obvious as the first section seems more fluid and played on the keys, while the second section seems more rhythmic and clearly played on the pads. i quite enjoy this method. let me know what you guys think of the loop as well as the pads.

Just do the pad mod with some tape, no need to buy the fat pads. Although the extra thickness is pretty attractive. I might order a set soon.
The tape mod is fine though. Sensitivity is high, I can do little feather triplet 32nd notes with my fingernails and have them trigger. I had to re-open it and adjust a few pads near the edges but once you get it dialed in it's perfect.

I did the tape mod and it sucks. I get ghost triggers and sometimes no triggers and just inconsistent behavior. I can tell the tape is falling off

I just ordered a set of yellowish orange fat pads to match the lights on the mpk. I will report back once installed.

Dope, I wouldn't mind the better pads. My pads have slipped a bit since first modding them so I might just get the upgrade. I gotta get a proper keyboard stand as well because my chair won't go high enough to play comfortably.

yeah mine isnt in optimal position on my desk either but its good enough. im not really a player anyway so i usually just jam something in sloppily then edit it.
would you like me to pm you my thoughts on the fat pads? im pretty picky and im used to the padkontrols very sensitive pads so i think i can give them a fair assessment. also, you know how the mpk has like yellowish orange lights on the mod wheel and buttons? i got the school bus orange color pads, i think they will look amazing. everyone usually gets the red pads and i hate the look of those. ill pm you a pic once they arrive too.

Yeah just post in this thread. I don't like the red either. I was thinking either the gold or blue. Maybe some of the glow in the dark ones. I wish the pads were backlit.

yeah for the price they should be. the ones i got are pretty much the gold color and i was looking at my mpk with the lights on last night and its gonna look dope, i cant wait.
right now 2 of my pads dont work properly with the tape. i think the tape fell off because it didnt want to stick very good once i got 6 layers on

Yeah I used masking tape because I was out of electrical tape. It worked for a while, but instead of buying new tape I might as well buy fat pads.
Had a look and thinking maybe one of these:

To match the screen

I don't think these are the sensitive ones though.

These would be cool if the light from the modwheel shines through the back

yeah i mean its totally worth it, your basically making the most essential part of the control work as it should.
i think im definately going to sell my novation remote, though i do love the keys on that thing. i wish there was a way to reduce the spring tension of the mpk keys

I know man
They feel waaaaay less springy now that I've gotten used to it though. When I first got it the keys felt so stiff. It's kind of like putting heavier gauge strings on your guitar. Once you get used to it it actually feels pretty nice.

Well that's good to hear because right now I hate them and I LOVE the feeling of the novation keys but besides that I like the mpk a lot more.

Post the results in here. I have an MPK49 but I have never done the mods on the pads. It's a great controller otherwise.

How was it installing those? I've never done any mods on my MPK so I don't even know how intensive of a project it is.

easy as pie. you just unscrew like 20 screws on the back. flip it right side up. lift the top panel from front bottom and lean it virtical towards the front of the mpk against something. then you just unscrew the 4 screws holding the pad housing. and you might need to loosen the 2 screws holding the pcb board to the right. then slide the old pads out under the ribbons. and slide the new ones in.
its really simple and nothing tricky about it. theres also a youtube video on it just for verification.
