What is it about this scene and the music that you love?

Too bad im in the states and where i reside there is no scene. Forced to travel 3 hours to hear it live. Other than that I love the variety of the genre. You can put on some Tes la Roc then mix in some sukh knight and it all sounds good. Big Ups to dubstep.

the good thing about underground uk rave music (and other scenes like techno, house, dancehall etc) is that it's completely self-sufficient in the way music is distributed, and the rave/soundsystem culture not only survived the advent of internet piracy but actually flourished because of the way the music is distributed.
with rave music (as opposed to say, rock music or pop music), the bulk of the people actually purchasing the music is not the listener but the DJ. that means that as long as dj's are still playing it and the people are still going to raves, producers are always going to get money for their tunes and make a living doing what they love, pressing plates. and now, even though soulseek and torrents give listeners unlimited access to all music for free, it doesn't hurt the rave scene because it's the DJ's who buy the tunes, and because they are themselves active participants in the scene, they would never even consider pirating tunes off soulseek and playing them out as it hurts the scene they're a part of (and it sounds like shit). the rave culture is so sustainable and self-sufficient that the only thing the internet has done for it is make the records more widely available to everyone.
with grime, the people buy the records are the audience, the listeners. and once grime cd's and dvd's became freely available as bootlegs on the internet, there's nobody left to actually buy the tunes because dj'ing isn't as integral a factor in the grime scene.if there's no money to be made as a producer in the underground scene, most of the artists are probably just going to sign to big labels and make hits in order to be able to put food on the fucking table.
anyway the reason i like the music is because it's good
