So yea, saying we should let them go extinct is fuckwittedry of the highest order.
That's a really good point that hadn't occurred to me at all. If it is the Chinese government that pays all of this money, then fair enough. I guess that money can be recooped with income from the tourist side of things.

However, a quick google search for 'Panda Charities' yields a good few results. Pandas clearly rake in the charity pounds. That charity money could be used to save some much more deserving species, and not one in "an evolutionary cul-de-sac" that simply has a purpose as a tourist attraction.

that is a good point, but that's not an argument that most people would use in favour of the panda. for purely economic/touristy reasons then it may be in the best interests of the chinese government to keep them going but most people will use the usual emotive arguments about how we're destroying the environment and forcing the noble panda into extinction bla bla bla (and i'm not saying that we aren't doing that but i really don't believe that's why panda are dying out)

People like nature... whether the Panda exists or other animals become more famous than it (for there are surely animals just as cyoooooote out there?) people will still spend their money on tourism.

I don't know anyone that's ever travelled to China specifically to see Pandas. More people go for the Great Wall, let's face it.

Pandas are shit reproductively AND economically. The only reason to keep them is so that the WWF don't have to pay anyone to come up with a new logo and we don't have to call Police cars "Zebra Cars".

clone them to a small size and domesticate them

we owe them that.

plus who wouldn't want to see youtubes of mini-pandas riding on top of dogs at highspeeds

maybe this is a bit far fetched but so is their survival...

This wins. Science should do this as a matter of priority. And while they're at it, a domesticated Emperor Penguin would be lovely, too.

I like this idea.

See, they don't even work properly as a relevant linguistic reference anymore. They're shit.

Take the millions spent on em, give em to disease ridden children in Africa, which is my answer to everything regarding useless funding.

I think they should keep doing everything they can to keep the species alive.

It's not like they are on suicide watch and want to die.

You all realise pandas went extinct years ago right? Every so-called panda you see these days is just a buncha animatronics dressed up in a panda suit. That's why they have zero sex drive.

..I figure, we've got them..why not try and keep them..

..but I feel the same way about the starving african children as well..

Why is it that we can afford millions for super yachts,
but we can't get starving people some rice and peas on the reg.

I can guarentee that pandas have brought more joy to the world than the super yacht..

I also like super yachts..not hating on boats or anything..
..but I forfeit mine for pandas and africans..

..AAANND Pandas can survive in the wild with zero tools..

That makes them better than us in a way..more pure

We would be shivering, lookin' for caves..
They sit high up in tree even in the snow..

I like the red ones..

If there weren't rich people, there wouldn't be poverty. It's a relative term.

There should be a job where you have to suck a panda's dick to get them in the mood.

That would be so sweet.
