A few things:
If your back is hurting it is more about your posture and your core strength. You have to do sit ups or crunches or something to strengthen your stomach muscles. Don't neglect the back muscles either, and make sure to stretch your hamstrings every day. Tight hammy's cause back pain. Sit ups kinda mess my back up, so I use a machine at the gym and it does wonders.
Chair: really, it's best standing up on a cushy surface, one for your back but I think more importantly, because when you're standing, it's easier to feel the groove (if you're making body music that is). Also less likely to dodldle on minutea. I think a tall stool would compliment this nicely, for when you need to take a break off of your dogs, just no slouching.
I really would like one of those kneeling chairs, I think they would really help strengthen your core. I've never used one for an extended period so can't say.
If you've gotta sit, get a chair that locks in an upright position and support your lower back without taking all of your weight. I think thats what those aeron chairs are all about. Truthfully I've sat in a few of those, and didn't really like it too much. Kind of like hugging a really skinny chick.
Anywayz with all that said, I'm with u deadly, I'll take that dog chair any day. If you could put casters on there and roll around, holy christ, I'd never move more than a mouse muscle.
My chair is dying right now, the padding has just given up the fight, and this chair served me well for so long. Shame. No money to replace her.
EDIT: and read a while ago that 135 degrees is the healthiest angle between your legs and your torso - cue up deadly's recliner.
