I have gone through 3 or 4 chairs in my career so far. I can't spend the dough on the expensive ones so I have to deal with them shitting the bed every 3 years or so. I find you have to find a balance between being comfortable but no TOO comfy. Last chair I had was like a big executive office chair. I would fall asleep in it all the time lol. Not good for the late night sessions. The last one I have is a lot smaller, just supports the back no the head and all. Arms are a must tho. Gotta have some cushion. Best value I found was ole Ikea.

y not buy one expensive one that will last a few years rather than spending almost an equal amount on multiple chairs that arent as good

There are lots of reasons. Don't have that much loot at one time. Need a chair NOW instead of being able to save up for it. You don't know if the expensive chair is going to last 3 times as long just because you paid 3 times as much. My cat likes to dig his claws into the back of them. I like a change of scenery. I could go on.

A few things:

If your back is hurting it is more about your posture and your core strength. You have to do sit ups or crunches or something to strengthen your stomach muscles. Don't neglect the back muscles either, and make sure to stretch your hamstrings every day. Tight hammy's cause back pain. Sit ups kinda mess my back up, so I use a machine at the gym and it does wonders.

Chair: really, it's best standing up on a cushy surface, one for your back but I think more importantly, because when you're standing, it's easier to feel the groove (if you're making body music that is). Also less likely to dodldle on minutea. I think a tall stool would compliment this nicely, for when you need to take a break off of your dogs, just no slouching.

I really would like one of those kneeling chairs, I think they would really help strengthen your core. I've never used one for an extended period so can't say.

If you've gotta sit, get a chair that locks in an upright position and support your lower back without taking all of your weight. I think thats what those aeron chairs are all about. Truthfully I've sat in a few of those, and didn't really like it too much. Kind of like hugging a really skinny chick.

Anywayz with all that said, I'm with u deadly, I'll take that dog chair any day. If you could put casters on there and roll around, holy christ, I'd never move more than a mouse muscle.

My chair is dying right now, the padding has just given up the fight, and this chair served me well for so long. Shame. No money to replace her.

EDIT: and read a while ago that 135 degrees is the healthiest angle between your legs and your torso - cue up deadly's recliner.

Cheers all... big up danloss and nowaysj, really useful info.

I used to have an Aeron in my old office and I remember it was pretty good. Sat on one of the ones I posted last night (Had Capisco) and it's frickin weird looking, but awesome... the seat has a sort of saddle shape so it forces you to have your hips and thighs in the right position. But it's fucking expensive and the one I saw on Ebay yesterday sold before I got back from the shop to look at them. :u:

Ah fuck. I was going to post something about it being scientifically proven that your tracks will sound 85% cleaner, clearer and punchier if you produce standing up. Maybe some bullshit about better circulations, but alas, someone got there first, that ship has sailed.

Shame, thought it would have been a belter personally.

Now I've said it, I might try working standing up. I'm a £9 asda fucker of a chair.
