Beat matching isn't very hard and on it's own is only good enough to make you 'competent' on the decks. People who get upset that people are 'cheating' by using a sync button need to reevaluate their priorities imo

yea but you're talking to the beardstrokers and trainspotters at the club when it comes to this who lurk on the outer edge of the dancefloor wishing they could dance or chat up the ladies and scatter like cockroaches when they see people having a good timejazzamataz wrote:the acid never lies wrote:You don't hear the DJs who actually get booked complaining do you?

Yeah, I know "Real" DJ's that organise their vinyl in BPM order so it's easier to mix. (No Joke.)
To me, as someone that doesn't DJ often, I'd say that was cheating...
I'm able to use decks, and i've practiced on them enough, but I personally feel the digital DJs have the edge if they know what they're doing.
I've used Albeton and vDJ for mixing, and if you're creative with it, they're amazing pieces of kit - not just for syncing music, but I've used it to create loops live in the mix as a segue to another drop so the crowd think they're getting one thing, before they get hit with something completely different.
If you're clever enough, you can open the programmes twice, and guess what - four decks on the go... (it's not impossible, but it's fucking difficult - tried it with 6 decks and lost track of what I was doing, so wouldn't advise it,) and again, if you can use them right, you get a great sound.
But, in all this talk, you miss the point of the DJ in the first place... to keep the party going. After a few drinks and oogling some of the ladyfolk for a few, I just wanna have a good time and rave it up - as long as the selection is good, (and that usually means the selection that keeps the ladyfolk on the dancefloor,) it's all good.

I see the point, but I still think it's complete bullshit. Any of the good DJ's on here could easily smoke a blunt, talk to some girl, go buy drinks and DJ all with their eyes closed if you give them a sync button. It doesn't take a full 2 minutes (roughly) to decide which the next song is going to be and then use the computer to cue it up. We can all do that in 15 seconds flat. For me, beatmatching gets everything grooving, which is why I swapped out my CDJs for vinyls. I could literally just put on a set list and do the whole thing without even paying attention if you let the computer do it for you. I just find it a slap in the face for DJ's who spend years learning how to get everything right, and then some drunk chav walks up and goes, yo check dis bruv, aint even got to be using no headphones. Fuck that. It's like if a drummer was quantizing all his beats on the spot. What's the difference between him and a kid who's fucked around on it for 2 hours?the acid never lies wrote:You don't hear the DJs who actually get booked complaining do you?
