my custom er-15's have just arrived,

they are great, before, my ears were getting tired very quickly (under the hour mark) from monitoring my mixes (at a low volume) with these in I can just get on and write music without my ears hurting. Also great for dj'ing too, even more discreet than I thought they would be so a tiny bit more of a cool factor too 'em :D

Seriously if you suffer or are scared of suffering tinnitus then invest in some of these.

A wise one once told me tinitus is the sound of a nerve dieing in the inner ear, causing a misfiring of the tone it would have otherwised been used to decipher... ANd once it dies, that tone is gone for good, neer coming back.

So savor that ring man. Last time youll ever hear it.

last time you'll ever hear it or.... the one tone you will be familiar with for the rest of your life.

permanent tinnitus is that, permanent.

it's the temporary stuff that you may be lucky to lose

yea i have had it since i was around 17-18 aswell, maybe even younger, playing the drums is a real killer for the ol ears

i just wish i had started wearing earplugs sooner, but now that i do actually protect my ears it hasnt got worse, and im starting to get used to it, so it doesnt really bother me any more

the funny thing is I wasnt noticing it, then i saw this thread started reading it and now its well loud

mines an e flat :D

Yeah drums are bad my brother was like John Bonham on the kit and used a piccolo snare that was the real killer then of course it didn't help we had to crank our amps just to hear what we were doing over him.

yea, infact, its the high pitched frequencies that do the real damamge to the ears, thats why things like cymbals and snares are killers, and actually bass shouldnt damage your ears too much, providing you arent blasting it into your ears from a couple of cm's away

Me since I was 25. Lots of shotguns, M80's, band practice with drummers bent on world domination - and the megawattage amps they necessitated, production, nights out, and one nasty feedback loop on a mixer, in my past.

It is fucking horrible. Around 3.2k in my right ear. A really really annoying pitch. It hasn't diminished a bit in 10 years. First few years were very difficult.

This is no joke.

I have had low level tinnitus since I was little. At least I think it was something like tinnitus, because I would 'listen' to silence, and it had a very slight hi pitched ringing. It didn't bother me for years until I was in my early 20s (I'm now 25) and I read about tinnitus. Then I was like "oh no! I have tinnitus!" and it drove me nuts for about 2 years. Whenever I went to sleep I would be listening for it, during the day I would be going "can I hear it? is that it? or is that insects or a machine somewhere close by?". The good thing was that I started to be careful when producing, and started to wear earplugs when I went out.

The good news for me is that it seems to be largely a psychological condition. Like I only started to notice it when I was made aware of it. When I forget about it it doesn't bother me. It hasn't bothered me for ages now - I just sort of got over having it. I stopped trying to 'not hear" the ringing, and as a result, I don't really hear it anymore. I know I probably have quite low level tinnitus - my ears have never had pain or anything like that. But I think for a lot of people with tinnitus at a low level, it is manageable..

Ok, so its been a few weeks on. I still got this thing man... (bareing in mind at the moment, i got alot of stress, so i hope that dont add on to the problem) I find it hard to go sleep at night, am having to keep a fan on to distract my mind. Like it was said this is a " psychological condition", when am out and about with my mates having a good time, it rarely comes into thought. But when theres peace and quite without much of my brain being active the vol st8 go out the roof sometimes. Plus, on Saturday i when out with a few mates, had to drinks, had a good time, raved out ect just a normal night. Now, when i got home... my god it was like my ears were going to blast! but lucky i got to sleep quick, normally its takes me a few hours to go sleep nowadays!

So...

I want protect (like i wanted it before) via the use of plugs for my ears. However, the question is which ones? i heard Lowpass say he just got some nice new custom ones.. maybe you can expand of that please? I have seen these same pair of plugs over and over again on DSF but dont know the name of it... i have little knowledge when it comes to these good or bad plugs?

Do you only were them when your going out or djing?

Who's going to help me out :D
