I posted about this book I think, I found it a bit...muddled. Personally, to someone nescient to the field, I'd recommend reading Richard Feynman, he's not that much harder to read and much more in depth, interesting and satisfying and not full of 'jokes'.snypadub wrote:A really good book that helps the layman understand the world of physics:Coppola wrote:I remember seeing this video aged 13 and not having a fucking clue about what is was talking about.
I'd like to learn more about different theories and especially about String Theory...

Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
Read a lot of Feynman, love his work. I actually prefer him to Chown but chown is much better for those with no knowledge but a genuine interest, informative and quirky. Feynman is excellent for non physisists with more than a laymans knowledge!!rbnc wrote:I posted about this book I think, I found it a bit...muddled. Re: Visualizing Ten Dimensions (String Theory)
i lose my interest in anything that considers time as existent, not to mention as a dimension
not like this is the only fail i see in that stuff, but it's the point where credibility reaches zero for me

I was wondering! No offense, but I was thinking "Where the fuck did that come from??!!??" Probably one of the better summations of m-theory I've come across!parson wrote:holy shit i was drunk when i typed that shit about m-theory. blows my mind how smart i am when wasted :]
Well, he's probably tinkering about with it till he gets it correct. Despite the fact that scientists are supposed to be open-minded, a lot of them are in fact the most closed-minded, tunnel-visioned, tribally-loyal, territorial apes on the planet.magma wrote:It got a lot of publicity a few years ago... well, lots of tiny "In other news..." articles with headlines like "SURFER SOLVES RIDDLE OF UNIVERSE" anyway.kay wrote:That sounds like a pretty elegant description. Not heard of this particular theory before, must go looking.
There's been some pretty bitter squabbling between supporters of him and those of String theory and he's never offered it up for proper peer review, I don't think... it's certainly elegant reading, but you think something must be holding him back - though I would think this is the sort of thing that's difficult to prove correct at the moment anyway, certainly until we've gained a lot more observation?

ah, good i can keep vamping you, felt you were a bit unsatisfied with the experienceparson wrote:i blocked you for being dim-witted and chatty.
and is it long since you unblocked me?
how many of those allegedly blocked people are actually unblocked?
and most important of all - where and how is it stored that time of yours you consider a dimension, i mean the past, the future... where do they exist now and in what form?
