gonna agree with JFK... take a trip to the Finished Tracks section (http://www.dubstepforum.com/put-your-fi ... 71935.html)

JFK and i are always skimming through the tracks there, so hardly anyone gets ignored, ever.

Disclaimer: We are brutally honest, but always polite. We will tell you what we like and what we dont, but always trust your gut. Take our points that make you go "Oh... that makes sense" in your head and go back and work on your track.

Between the two of us, we cover pretty much all tastes, it seems i like the brutal things and JFK tackles the ambient/glitch-lovers side of things, so between us and the rest that chime in, we'll get you to where you need to be.

much love :w:

So you make you tunes and of course you like them, (cuase youve looped them thousands of times) but how do you know when you have reached that other level? Your friends and your girl might say they like your tunes. But how do you know they are not telling you lies? How can you tell that your product is ready to hit the market and you are ready to be released?
your friends and girl won't tell you lies... by definition, that's not what they do. they like you for YOU. if you invest your whole self into your music, the music will represent you... so the same people who simply like being around you will also enjoy your music because it will have the same quality. however.. just because they say they love the music doesn't mean it's going to be a hit, in the same way that just because your mom says she loves you doesn't mean you're going to be famous.
the way i know my tunes aren't shit is when i meet somebody new, somebody i like, I start to get friendly with them. they ask what i do. i say "I make dubstep." if they're cool at all, they'll already know what that is. i say, "you wanna hear some of it?" whip out the mp3 player, shove the headphones on them... if they start nodding to it and swaying, maybe start to move in ways that they don't really intend.. then i know the music's doing it's trick. if you can grab someone who doesn't know you and have them feel your music, I know it's good.. cuz that's what good music does to me.

brutal honesty is good but can hurt people ... constructive criticism is better.

tbh tho when some one tells me my tunes are whack it makes me try harder.

but i dont care what people think b/c im happy with the tunes im making ... im not too fussed if people arnt feeling them

aslong as i know i put the effort in and its not due to a production error / mistake that they're hating on

You have to be able to take brutal honesty in this game man. Its an essential skill.

And where Im concerned the criticism is ALWAYS constructive. :w:

agreed.. once, i played some of my tunes for a dude.. he wasn't really feeling them. he said "it's okay, but anybody can attach an LFO to a filter" (which is funny, cuz that's not the technique i even used) "but you should listen to more stuff like borgore.."
so i told myself that even though I knew he was partly wrong about my music, i should still give a listen to a bunch of stuff like borgore... and i actually really liked it and was influenced by it. so i started using new techniques, but also relied heavily on my old ones. the point is... i didn't completely turn my music around and start copying borgore, but i DID allow myself to learn from it.

a good artist can turn brutal honesty, even if hurtful, into constructive criticism
