what always pissed me of about this shit was that it was never cool to just be into it abit. i met alot of people at uni who'd say stuff like "oh you've got Autechre records, do you know about That_cnut_whos_so_obscure_he_only_plays_at_o.a.p.s._funerals?" and if you didn't they'd look at you in digust as if liking a few tunes simply wasn't good enough...
Anyone into Spezial Materials by the way? thers some sick stuff on that label.

D'Arkangelo too
the older rephlex stuff was such a huge infleunce... they ran a small night called Rephresh at the Soundshaft in Charing Cross Road. Was like 2 quid to get in, with all the crew playing in random order. You never knew who was gonna turn up, but it was usually sqpusher, vibert, aphex, grant master control, k rock etc. Windowlicker got dropped there for the first time, same with Come to Daddy.. Ovuca, Bogdan etc etc
The impressive thing was watching them make this kind of abstract music work on a dancefloor, the way it was played, mixed up with other records they liked.. proper having-it kind of vibe. The Rephres NYEve party hads a ticket which looked liek a ten pound note with aphex's face instead of the queens
Haven't seen nights like that since.
Anyway... Polygon Window, Bytes, Incunbula, Amber...

I agree! His last album is the best thing warp have released in yonks in my opinion. I also agree with narcossist - this type of music attracts more than it's fair share of pretentious chin-stroking twatssubeena wrote:Oh i forgot: Chris Clark, who is not actually "old stuff" -still on warp tho- but deserves to be mentioned cause in my opinion, at least, he's a don..

Warp became the acceptsable face of dance music to indie kids. This allowed them to look down on other styles while still thinking they were cool and with it, though they had missed the boat by about ten years. Blame warp for EDM. Although warp them selves liked to call it electronic listening music.
