this kinda thing seemed like it was a big thing in austin for a while but i don't see it so much lately. there's a couple of em that come out for the dnb weekly though and when i played dubstep for em they seemed perplexed at first but took immediately to it.

i've also played dubstep in situations where there was elaborate lasers going over the crowd's head, and i can say at least from the dj's pov that its sweet as hell

i thought the video was cool, if a little disturbing. wasnt sure what you were trying to say at first with the shooting up ,but the dark places theme makes more sense. personally i would have tried to make it more subtle, but still a good effort. nice one.
also digging the tune and it does seem to fit the overall (not specifically the heroin) vibe of the video.
out of interest which burial track were you originally going to use?

as for visuals and dubstep, i have to say that i too prefer the simple dark room + big souund setup, but whatever as long as it sounds good.

nice whan matt! i like it, i think the whole sooting up bit was effective... but it was a bit too much... maby if you had cut it up a bit more etc etc it wouldnt be so in your face...

but i do like it..

Big up for the work you put into this, i think it's interesting.
For me the mood of the tune clashes with the video, personally Papua Nu Guinea (even remixed by Lycaon) is very uplifting in tone, almost euphoric sounding (and not in a bearded-behatted-men-injecting-heroin-in-dark-rooms kind of way

)
But it's not for others to say how someone else finds meaning in music, yeah?

I liked that man. I can see why some people don't appreciate the shootin up bit but as you say the video is about dark places and that was pretty dark. Seein his face is what hits it home I think.

As far as visuals at Dubstep nights go I think the back room at Subdub usually looks sweet. The night we put on last weekend started with the lighting rig they had there that flashed a few different colours onto the dance floor and then when I played the headline set we turned them off and had UV strip lights and a laser. Looked pretty good I thought. Kept everything pretty dark coz I much prefer dancin when it's dark. It means you can concentrate more on the music and less on your surroundings

You know, its interesting to me. Im a vj for a few clubs here in LA, but I never dared to do it for our dubstep shows. I think it should be total focus on the sound.

Liked the video, til I saw the heroin - had to turn it off. Ive seen around a dozen of my close friends die from the drug, doesnt humour me one bit.

I do all the visuals for our night in Notts (WigFlex - every second friday at Muse

) and detonate. I'm in agreement with most of the views here, for dubstep I always keep it minimal, urban, high contrast with few mid levels - mixed with some rasta business for the tunes you know everyones smoking their pre-rolls to...Always keep transitions long and dont change it up too fast and keep it very simple - like people have said its a music that you can close your eyes and just feel it, so you dont need massive visual intrusion unlike other genres where the music really benefits from good live visuals.

i thought the vibes worked nicely with the tune actually, thought the needle scene could have been more sensitively treated, but with that track i was tryin to get the (melancholic/euphoric) sound of the city n that sort of thing does go on in that environment...
think i woud have just preferred the more atmospheric shots to be honest, but hey it werent my video n was glad the tune worked for it still...
