Yeah it's funny. Growing up having English relatives it interested me, and I had read the O's and U's in words such as "colour" are not used in American English in order to further separate it from French. There's still words and pronunciations that contradict that though. Funnily enough if someone wants something to appear official or "classy", usually the spellings revert back to the original way.

Also annoying is that Americans can't say the letter 'o'. WTF is that all about? It's the only letter that looks the way you're meant to pronounce it, yet they still can't do it.
