That's basically what I got out of it

a few of the Lost nerds have pointed out that they were in Limbo rather than purgatory......

this! series 1 & 2 were good but after that it felt like they just got swept up in their own hype, tried to put too much in it, all the time travelling shit was lame as well.
Should have been 3 series, 1 & 2 the same as they are and a final season wrapping it up simply..

loved lost all the way though
the limbo idea was weak i thought, the lost nerds were tossing that idea round in the first series
i was expecting some weird paradox from all that time travelling they had been doing, and that their were two versions of everyone living in the same timeline

 yeah , to me it seems that everyone twigged straight away, but the writers went off on a tangent to kind of dismiss the fact that everyone kind of got it in the first couple of episodes

I bet it went..

Writer 1."I've got an amazing idea where a plane crashes and everyone on it goes into purgatory"

Writer 2."cool"

everyone guesses this straight away

Writer 1."fuck, they guessed it, ok, the island is now real... and ....er......."

5 seasons later

Writer 1."ok, I think we can go back to the original idea now, but the island is still real, and the timeline switches are purgatory!!"

Writer 2."Limbo, Syed is muslim"

Writer 1."yeah.... LIMBO!!!!"

or summit like that

absolute shit ending

there was no weight to it.

This series should be called: deus ex machina

(pronounced /ˈdeɪ.əs ɛks ˈmɑːkiːnə/ or /ˈdiː.əs ɛks ˈmækɨnə/,[1], DAY-əs eks MAH-kee-nə) (Latin for "god from the machine"; plural: dei ex machina) is a plot device whereby a seemingly inextricable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with the contrived and unexpected intervention of some new character, ability, or object.

Enjoyed the first season after that it just tailed off into bad writing being stretched out for as long as they could. IMO

Just to point out how far the series came (fell off) - in the first season, all of the drama and tension was about the characters and how they were going to survive, what they were going to eat, etc.

by the end of the series - WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY EATING?! this has baffled me and it shows that the writers dug themselves way too deep with plot twists to keep anything in perspective. I understand for a while there was leftover Dharma Initiative food, but what about when they go tramping off into the jungle for a couple days? the whole "I'm lost on an island" thing, which was really the heart of the show at the beginning, quickly gave way to ridiculous plot twists and heel turns and ridiculous symbolic gestures. i wasn't totally disappointed by the ending since i never put too much stock into the show to begin with, but the show is definitely not worth losing any sleep over trying to figure out something that the writers probably couldn't even explain to you if they tried.

sorry, i was just annoyed at how bad it really was. Spent a little bit of time just now reading/thinking it over and came up with these points.

Unanswered:
-why did man in black get turned into the smoke monster who can inhabit dead people, but when desmond went down there we see he would have just landed at the bottom of a waterfall? was there some evil waiting in the light for 1 unlucky person to fall down?
-why does jacob have special powers?
-why can hurley talk to dead people?
-what was the real significance of the numbers?
-why can the island jump through time periods at the turn of a wooden wheel?
-why do you appear in Tunisia when you turn said wheel?
-why can they suddenly just fly the plane off the island, what happened to all the special coordinates and stuff?
-what is the significance of the people in the room at the end? what about hurleys dad, desmonds son? walt, etc.
-why did they show the island underwater in the purgatory reality?
-how/why did ben have such good outside connections/money/passports etc?
-why could no one give birth on the island?

Stupid:
-actually the whole purgatory thing was retarded, no time?!?
-what did the MIB actually want to do? leave the island or destroy it? he could have easily done either after jacob was killed surely?
-why does that stupid cork even exist and why can it be removed, if it's only purpose of being removed is to destroy the island? why didn't whoever built it just plug THE EEEVILLLL up permanently?
-Epic tale of good vs evil ending with Kate just shooting him and a shit one-liner. Also, Desmond pulled the plug which lead Flock to become mortal and lose his powers, but why didn't he just die? Seems weird that he lost 'half' his powers but not all. And also why does removing the plug which appears to keep the evil out make the evil (smoke monster) weaker?
-Why was Sayid with Shannon in his afterlife thing, ALL of his backstory was about finding/marrying/losing the love of his life...Nadia.
-Why are Sun and Jin not bothered when they realise they are dead and their child will grow up without them!?

There was nothing big revealed in the final episode, the whole of 6 seasons was literally rounded up with: good triumphed over evil on the island and all the characters meet up in a "made up place which they created" to move on once they have died, how does that have ANY relevance to the previous 6 seasons apart from the fact they are people who got to know each other? Friends or Harry Potter or ANYTHING could/should have ended like that as well.

Saying it was all about the characters is just bullshit as well, every show is about the characters but it doesn't mean you have to write in so many mysteries that you can't possibly seam it all together at the end in a logical way.

If i'm wrong on any points please correct me, i want to feel satisfied about the whole thing...

you raise some good points! :)

i guess cos locke was unconscious when he went in there, the stream current would have pulled him into the electro magnetic bit that turned him to the smoke
desmond is resistant to the electro magnetic stuff, so he wouldn't turn to smoke
