I just downloaded Avast and I started a "quick scan" It's stuck at 2% and has been scanning the same file for an hour and a half. (a .dll file)

I can't stop or pause the scan and the task thing wont let me end the process. Baffled.

Yeah the first time you run it it will take ages cus its going through every file but after the first scan it will be alot quicker :)

Should it really be taking almost 2 hours on a single file though? It's not gonna take that long on enough other files is it?

Best free one out there IMO, it uses the cloud to keep its definitions up-to date so unlike other AVs it never has an out of date definition. 8)

I used a trojan horse on someone when I was like 13... it was one with a UI etc, I hid the file in a game executable. It provided lolz at the time, you could do random shit like flip their screen upside down, open and close their cd drive, print stuff out of their printer (could activate their webcam if they had one too). Oh the joys of being a geek.

I think its wrong to pirate anti virus software. It's like stealing a lock for your door. lol.
Do hackers tend to put out infected AV software more than other shit? I was never able to find a safe version of Norton or anything. Seems like you're just asking for trouble.

It's like taking a hooker's word that she doesn't have hep c.

I wouldn't put Norton, McAfee or any of that shite on my computer legit or not. And if you get 'scene' releases direct from the FTP or from a private torrent / rapid site you'll be fine. Good bit on how it all works here:

AVG has worked years for me and never let me down - then again im also quite computer savvy and dont visit shadey warez sites and download torrents from public trackers.

I might try avira though, always good to be on the look out for better security.

My comp has around 1500 gb of shit in it. That would take for-everrrrrr.

Dont use GData it sucks. If you get a trojan, Malwarebytes is a good scanner.

There is a program called CleanUp. It deletes shit you don't need. Mostly temp files where trojans hide. It cleans up registry files too I think.

First time I ran it it deleted 30 gigs worth of shit.

I had Trend Micro and it works ok. I did get one trojan but that is cause i turn off the firewall llike a dummy.
