If this is the problem you are having, then it is the result of a good idea. It is good to have head room to work with in your sampler. What annoys me is that tracks just dragged into the playlist are at full volume, and you have to turn everything down. Although there is a reason for this as well.

Even so, having to compensate for db cutoff as a result of resampling just seems a bit unnecessary to me, especially if I resample, say, the bass 4 or 5 times to get the desired effect I want on it.

I think we very well may be speaking about different things.

But if we're discussing the thing that I think we're discussing, when you bring your sample back into fl (to program on the step sequencer?) turn the little knob right next to the channel all the way up. That is the volume knob for that channel. That is as loud as you recorded your sample. That should sound like what you heard on your master out.

If you are bringing the sample directly onto the playlist, click the channel of the audio clip, go to the Channel Settings pop out box, and turn the second knob from the top all the way to the right, that is also your volume knob for that channel. If you turn it all the way up, that will be as loud as you recorded your master at.

I hope we're talking about the same thing, and that you don't actually have a problem, cause I might be a little bit stumped as to the solution.

Before you decide if the way fruity imports audio is good or bad, I recommend that you continue to use it. Perhaps the wisdom of the way things are done will begin to appear to you. I've thought the way fruity does things to be ridiculous at times. Often however, it does dawn on me that the way fruity does it is a very good way indeed. My biggest revelation was the browser. I used to hate that thing, and used the standard open dialogs. The browser in fruity is about 25% the value of the app, I love working with their browser.

Alright, was digging into this, cause I remember reading about this, just didn't really remember the outcome. The outcome is that if you want your sample to play at the same volume as the pure render, you have to turn the volume multiplier up to Exactly 137%. Tricky part, that with the default channel level and default velocity.

Briefly looking at this, it look like an additional 7db's of gain, which seems like too much to me. But I'm falling asleep, so maybe you test it out when you read this, let us know if it works, won'tchu?

volume all the way up, and velocity at 127 will still leave the sound a decibel or two below the full volume if triggered through the step sequencer.

Fl's step sequencer is composed of many samplers, no sampler outputs samples at 0db. It is very conventional how fl handles sample gain. Stop hating.

do you have the dithering option checked or not? i remember back when that used to be my issue when it came to resampling and loudness.

gnaw, I've just been speaking with fl's dev, and just set the volume mulitplier to 137%, or just use the audio in the playlist. Based upon what op said they wanted to do, I think the audio should just be used in the play list, if that is the case, no volume adjustment is necessary.

Now that you mention it, I was thinking that you ment that FL's sampler doesn't output to 0db even with the volume/velocity all the way up! That would be odd.

I would also mention that My version of Kontakt defaults to 0db, but that might be due to me saving a 'template' sampler with multi outs etc....

Yes, the volume dial is set to 0.0 db in kontakt, but check this.

Put a sample in your arrange page, or play list or whatever logic calls it, check the db output of that. Now put the sample into Kontakt, and even while kontakt is at 0 db, the output from kontakt will be considerably less than the output out of the arrange page.
