delay, reverb, sidechain comp and limiter are my tools for this. reverb has to be enough to create a 'space' in the listeners head.. but subtle enough that they won't even notice it's there. this helps things gel together nicely. sidechaining the kick to master compressor just kinda glues it together for some reason. never use too much, just enough to make it breathe slightly.
use filtered delay to make all sounds blend into the same one after a while..
