Not surprising. Not very different to what I listened to back in those days tbh. 15 now, and my taste in music is nowhere near as broad as it was 3 or 4 years ago. Something I resent.

I think its pretty common for a 12 yr old to listen to what their older siblings listen which might not be typical "12 year old music"

When I was around 12 my cousin got me into Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Explosions in the Sky, and a lot of other bands that kids my age don't really get exposed to unless a sibling or someone else you idolize and think is cool listens to them.

Now I would imagine that if I had a 12 yr old brother I would have him listening to some proper music as well as this kid

As a matter of fact not a single person I knew when I was 12 really gave a shit, at least not enough to go around asking everyone. My guess is it's someone just trying to stir up some shit.
I sure as hell cared when I was 12, idk maybe that's just me. I probably started caring about the music I listened to when I was 7/8
I didn't. Was constantly paid out at school for listening to electronic music at the age of 12/13, while everyone else was listening to alternative/metal.etc. Now all those dickheads like the shit I've been onto for years.

Mate, that sounds awesome.

I have my parent's influence on me. The three first records I owned when I was 7 was Abbey Road by the Beatles, Are you Experienced by Hendrix, and The best of the Jam. I'm proud of that. They also owned a folk club in the 60s and 70s and got high all the time, so I can blame them for that too haha.

My biggest musical influence is friends. There is nothing I like more than recommending/being recommended a track and then going on to love it. :4:

This. Same thing happened to me with my sister's rock interests.
And I've enlightened my younger brother on dnb and dubstep.

It's not too strange he's referring to that since it's Madlib's nickname.
Anyway who cares, listen what you like.

I honestly can't imagine I'll ever only listen to electronic music, or one particular genre. And I'm genuinely thankful about that

i listened to 90s skater punk when i was 12/13. stuff like less than jake, nofx, the descendants, operation ivy, the bouncing souls. then i got into underground hiphop when i was 14. got into crunk when i went to college when i was 19. then i started to dabble in EDM after i ate acid for the first time when i was 20. of course there are many other genres in between then and now too! sucks how some people listen to the same shit their whole life, theres so much out there to appreciate.

aha yea I use to listen to iron maiden too and artists like ACDC, Led zeppelin, and Black sabbath. but that was just what my dad listened too. I liked the more calm music and relaxation music but I had no idea what artists or genre would be specifically for that at the time so I didn't take music that seriously at all. but now I do.
