I do pretty much everything at quarter capacity when I'm high. When I'm sober, I just get to it, map all my ideas down nice and efficiently, which leads to creativity. When I'm high, I kind of just sit around fucking with stuff for a while and then watch a film.

I usually smoke. It's fun time for me so naturally I do some minor partying while producing. Unfortunately I ran out last night and I am not sure when I'll be able to get another bag but that is ok I can go either way and am actually more efficient with my time when sober... It's just not as fun.

I can understand not tokin' while make tunes, but a producer that ain't never done drugs? that's not right man - 75% of the people listenin' to your tunes are gonna be on drugs - dont ya feel like getting stink bombed and seeing what your tunes feel like form their perspective? ain't smoked any of the good stuff since I came back from uni in may and Ive been way more productive though - still man Im itchin' for a bit green so I can hear what my tunes sound like when I'm cained!!

Seriously tho, drugs won't make you creative if you're not but it does modify the senses perception and the mind which can be used creatively.

You can do this without drugs.

could never get anything done on herb, sadly. Can't really write anything worth listening to, and for the life of me i CANNOT play high. or drive. or hold a conversation.

I always do/did enjoy listening to music while baked. Used to make notes of how awesome things sounded while lit up, and then go back and listen sober. I think in time i developed my "sober ears" to be as sensitive as my stoned ears... which is good. Also eat WAY less tortilla chips nowadays

I wanted to start a thread about this, seems I'm not alone...

Been a right ol' toker and in all my days I've realised that weed is making me stupid. Don't get me wrong I love my charf, but if I smoke whilst in session I make sure I'm not a dribbling mess. They say the difference between drugs and medicine is dosage. A mild high is plenty, gets your ears pricked and your head out of the box and "in the zone". Too much and well...not so productive Spend a lot of time making irrelivent shit.

I'd rather be a Jedi knight and focus on my music, get it done. In the long term thats what I'm after.

What I like to do is get a good start on a song, like a strong intro and beginnings of the first 'verse' then take a break from it for maybe an hour or two, toke up and come back to it... I like this way better because sober, I just tend to be to much of a perfectionist and I cant get anything exactly how i want it and get frustrated. On the other hand if I'm stoned and start from scratch I tend to just tweak my synth sounds endlessly going "damn this is a nice sound" (sad I know). However my middle ground is if the track is started and has some nice solid elements and I come back to it high I can sit there and think "ok I want to do this, this and this" , and actually get it done and sounding the way I want it. To each his/her own though

Right today i havent strayed away from making a beat from being worried i wouldnt get anywhere and actually i feel really happy with this clip i have made. It really wasnt as bad as i thought. Might stick at it and see where i can go from here, feeling really positive and didnt get too stressed!

usually pretty productive when stoned although had some squidgy recently that has definitely hindered things, but my tolerance has been reset cos i've been going long periods without so that's probably a factor too.
