i just think it's misguided to hold it as a primary goal. he's hinting that he's making music for the money and fame.

i think we all know that pussy is the only real reason we make music.

I'm excited for the day I make one cent off of anything i've done.

I've been DJing for 5 years and producing for 1 year. But I don't give a shit.... My only competition is myself

That isn't what I was hinting at. It is the mindset I often fall into when i finish tunes that I should protect them and send them out to labels because that is the way it 'should' be done (because it was that way when I started producing). However I only really make music for the fun of making it and in the hope that someone else will like it too. I don't want to make money from it at all. I make a very nice living doing what I do and I can afford all the music gear I want without having to see a return on any tunes, so I actually have no reason to sell stuff I write.

As for fame, I really don't see why anyone would want that. Seems like a lot of stress.

Why are you so bothered about other people hearing it then?

sorry! edited.

DZA - the very next bit of the phrase you higlighted - the hope that someone else will like my music too. Primarily, I like making music. A secondary goal is that I get a good feeling if someone else also likes what I make. I think there are people out there that will like what I make; all that bothers me is that I am very bad at trying to find them.

Ultimately though, if I didn't love making music and learning more about making it, I wouldn't do it any more. That is always the most important thing.

yea so our band is totally anti-commmerical, we're not in it for the money

we don't play gigs because that's too mainstream

we don't sell T-shirts cuz that's too corporate

we don't practice because that's too predicatible

>>>

so here's this: you should never START making music for the money. Even the most successful songwriters around today (ie, Dr. Luke) were playing, and DJ'ing, just for the love of it.

but if your songs, if your music has a life outside of your immeidate circle- why not? i'd love to hear the arguments against trying to get as paid as possible for your efforts.

Sure, mala, pinch and others may not be dangling promoters out of 4th story windows to get their bills... but that's what they have booking agents/managers for. I think plastician still does his own dangling tho, TBH
