using saw waves for this sounds is kind of counter intuitive imo

this bass sound is just a sine with some subtle harmonics added, while an ideal saw wave has an infinite number of harmonics

Like I said, the sound only has some subtle harmonics brought out by a sine shaper and/or something similar. It's way easier to go from the fundamental and add a few harmonics than it is to take an infinite number of harmonics (or to the very least very high, since I don't think any synthesizers actually create an infinite number of harmonics) and remove a shit ton

Basically what Phig said, it's just illogical. Taking a saw wave and then trying to subtractively cut out or attenuate most of the frequencies in a certain pattern is a waste.
Equivalent of "How do I get some nice overdrive saturation on my guitar?"

To op... actually all this back and forth is prolly kind of informative, as I think any number of techniques could achieve that sound, from compression induced harmonics, to sine shapers, to layered filtered saw waves, distortion, overdrive, harmonic excitation, on and on.

But I think the crux of the sound, is actually the slight chorus and the reverb on the harmonic portion of that sound. That's just my guess, I don't even know why you're asking, as you know more than most here anyway.

Never said there's only one way to do things, but like teaching a blind man to play piano vs a hearing capable man, one way is usually much easier than another.

That being said, if OP has a sound and wants to add harmonics to it "use a saw wave" is waste advice.

The real issue at hand that we've been on about the entire thread is that you're a condescending know it all who gives shit advice and then tries to twist things around and insult other people when they disagree with you. No one actually regards you as a credible source of information and your posts only serve to give people something to chuckle about or mislead noobs. You completely denounce one technique and say USE MINE, and when people refute your bullshit, you contradict yourself and say "no, there's many techniques". For this approach I would go with a waveshaper, which are extremely popular in the DnB community for adding harmonics or dirtying up a sound. They're very versatile in the range of distortions they can produce. The OP already mentioned a sine shaper in his post which is a kind of wave shaper. I would recommend trying out some other settings in a waveshaper, I see he's in Reason though so maybe try some other settings on the Scream unit to get some variance in his tone... etc."
