Note: using midi and samples doesn't necessarily mean you end up with that box sound. I'm working on a track right now that's all midi triggered multisamples and it sounds like a mega tight band. You just have to put in the work and edit everything from micro-timing to velocity and constantly be varying everything. In a 7 minute track with a lot of instruments it takes a shitload of time to edit a new clip for every bar but it's rewarding in the end.

I think it's all about getting drums to overlap nicely without loosing their impact, for me that makes the whole song seem less robotic. It's horrible when you listen back to something you've made and you can hear the loop points, as if someone is shouting out "here we go again" at the start of each bar
How does I wobbled bass?

Without hearing it, none of us can make an accurate judgement on it to be fair.

Taking what he said at pure face value though, the bloke sounds like an idiot who is trying to sound clever but just comes across as a tool.

Electronic music is midi/sample based. If you aren't using samples then you are using synths controlled by midi, or sampling your midi controlled instruments, broadly speaking. What the guy has said is not constructive. A more contructive comment may have been 'you can tell those drums are sampled, they are hard quantised and don't compliment each other', for example.

What he has said basically could be directed towards any producer.

My advice would be to post it up so we can have a listen and tell you what we think he meant. At least then you will get some feedback on what could be wrong, instead of some utterly ambiguous comment which says nothing.

I think something can be learned from this. Maybe your production needs to be pushed further?
