that means man was commenting on the post above his

@ jupiter h8 --- so if dubstep is formulaic to you and the "good stuff died a few years back" why did you come to join this worldwide dubstep hub (now bigger than ever) so late in 2010?

so much great perspective coming from the newer members these days :u:

to answer your question doe

dubstep has not become a remix genre

its just all the newjack idiots that you are encountering and becoming frustrated with that are skewing yr perspective

there is a ton of serious music out. a ton. there are also a ton of people distilling the lowest common denominator out of the midrange side of it (lfo bass, silly samples, popular indie accapellas etc) and building there own misinformed version of the genre. I wouldn't call that "dubstep" proper, its not my cup of tea, it wouldn't be what I showed people who have never even been exposed to the sound.. to me its just music for the non-musical, the same kind of people who might like a gabber version of "forever young" or Journey tunes... who would party to that shit?

Jupiter H8 wrote:i just personally think there aren't enough musical minds working in dubstep for it to be sustainable. ultimately, it's nothing more than a dance-floor formular, and one that got capitalised on very quickly, so as to turn it into a pardoy of itself. basically, real dubstep died a good few years ago now, and the guys that made the first wave of tunes that set the template (releases on labels like Tempa, Hotflush etc from 2004-2007) probably don't have the musical or compositional ability to really push it into reaches of quality timeless music. Magnetic Man is as close as it's come, but even so it doesn't feel like it justifies dubstep as *music proper*.

Sorry just had to point this out, It is Flux Pavillion who made this tune, Funtcase and all the big producers are dropping it left right and centre.

I think thats another big problem with dubstep too. because of the internet, filesharing and whatnot people are getting these songs within days of them being released and obviously a select few getting it in advance to spin at the clubs, but as soon as there is one good tune it gets absolutley HAGGARD by all the producers... some examples, Rusko - Cockney Thug, Doctor P - Sweetshop & Gargoyle, Giant - Drumstick. And i can safely say, Flux's remix of Gold dust, Sub Focus' Remix of Hold on and DEFFINATLEY Hold me Close will all get haggard and i wont be able to listen or mix with them within like 2 months because everyone will be sick of hearing them. [THESE ARE JUST MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS!]

And it isnt a remix genre, its just if you make a good remix of a well known song them you are a lot more likely to draw attention to yourself from people stumbling into your music, and even a lot more likely to get radio time.

New Track Produced by me in Reason 4.0. Constructive feedback would be lovely! =D

Give it a few years and all the youtube scene-sters who think dubstep consists of a la roux remix and some Lady GaGa remix which is "filthier than licking your nans bucket fanny" will have moved onto something new and left dubstep alone to and left the real fans behind.

Rant over.
Had to quote this little bit!

Anyways, about dubstep being a "remix" genre, this is so easy for people to say. Especially people who know sweet FA about dubstep. Look at that (god-awful) Generation Dubstep compilation that just came out, the tracklisting must be at least 85% remixes. Remixes of pop songs. Same goes for that Ministry of Sound compilation, loads of remixes. Point is, its easy to assume its a "remix" genre because that is how many people are getting introduced to it. We, as "deeper" fans, can only hope the newcomers find the artists that actually put out creditable music and push the genre forward through innovation and brilliant production.

You know this man I am forever thinking this. Always goes through my head everyone should hear the deeper side of things instead of the spoon fed stuff otherwise thier opinion just seems invalid.... But then I also slip into my beats and remember it doesn't matter because things like this seperate true heads and true tunes.
