Is 120GB an average amount that gets easily filled?
I got a new macbook pro about 4 months ago, 500+gb on that bad boy. Only used up 40gb or so. I tend to find as it reaches maximum it's best to back up everything you need and reinstall - computers have a habit of eventually getting overloaded with useless shit.

Does anyone know if i'm right about the I-tunes though? It runs through the folder it creates itself once it's opened, so it's ok to delete the original file/move it to a different hard drive?
yeah, the default is that it copies the tracks into the itunes folder, so then you can delete them from your downloads folder. (to double check, right click on a tune in itunes and select 'show in finder'. It'll show you what folder that tune is in - if it's smething like :itunes/artist/album/song.mp3 then itunes is copying things to the itunes folder)

This may be a stupid or obvious suggestion but if you are deleting stuff make sure everything in your trash gets emptied as sometimes I drag stuff there and forget about it which in the end doesn't really clear any space.

Again apologies if this was useless

Probably best to get an external hard drive and start to dump stuff on there.

Question regarding music i have in I-tunes. Most of the 11GB in my 'download' folder is music i've been sent, free downloads etc. I went through and deleted some older tracks i didn't need, yet they still played in I-tunes so i looked about and there's a folder (User>Music>I-Tunes>I-Tunes Music) and it had a copy of the track there too, which it's obviously now reading from.

So, can i delete all music from my downloads folder, as it's been duplicated and I-tunes is now using it's own folder to play it?

Just opened up a new track that wasn't in my I-tunes, and it appeared in that folder automatically again, so it looks like its ok to delete the original files?

Sorry if this is common knowledge hahah.
Yes, when you put music into Itunes, another copy is created by itunes, so all music that is in itunes can be deleted from your downloads folder without losing data. I discovered this myself and knocked out like 40 gigs hah, so you might want to get on that.
