not to get ahead of ourselves, assuming this turns out and this is successful, we could have a different person spinning them for each compilation we come out with.
I would love more than anything to have a serious and talented DJ do the mixing AAANNNDDD also spin these mixes. I know a few Djs myself that i plan on getting a hold of as soon as this DSF sessions Vol.1 gets rolling. But these guys would be mostly spinning at shows, would be great to get a hold of someone for a studio mix session.
Id be more then happy to mix.

Check out the link in my sig that says Mixes/Free Tunes, if you wanna here what I can do!

I'm a bit confused as to what is going to potentially happen here -

is it a free release/ compilation, and someone will mix the tracks as well for promo?

I think it is a good idea. I agree with Sharma in that if it is to be worthwhile it should be done well, and if it is done well I don't know why it couldn't be an automatic go-to for djs. There are so many fantastic tracks by members that don't go anywhere.

You can use anything on my soundcloud if you'd like. My stuff is kind of all over the map, but if there's anything you like I'll contribute. Here's the ones people seem to like:
This ones a little metal influenced
Soundcloud
This next ones a little funkier.
Soundcloud
This ones a little deep/glitchy
Soundcloud
This ones a little popish, but the ladies dance to it so...

Oh, and the one in my sig

I think this is a great idea but to work properly it needs someone to take control and get shit done basically. But then if someone just nominates themself (no offense OP) then gets to choose who gets in and who doesn't make the cut then there's bound to be grief. I propose several people put their name forward as wanting to be the overlord as it were and then we have a voting thread to decide who we want to make the hard decisions. Preferably someone with no bias on heavy/deep/ambient/glitchy etc etc styles that will pick the best tunes regardless of vibe.

Secondly it needs to be sorted out where the EP is gonna be hosted and what kind of promo there is gonna be. Some sort of forum badge thing for people to wear in other forums could be something to think of etc etc Ideally there would be a site dedicated to this idea with good graphics and a well thought out layout but then that's more work requiring more people to do..

So to sum up I think the main issues here are;
choosing someone to make the final decisions,
hosting/dedicated website
promo
graphics
mastering

People aren't gonna be too up for offering mastering or graphics/website design work for free..

Do like the idea if we can get all these details sorted!

This is a cool idea, although like stated above this takes alot of effort to be done decently. Either way, dunno if my productions are good enough to qualify for DSF compilation but i'm willing to contribute.

Some of my latest tracks:

Also personally I think that having individual tracks rather than a mixed set would work better with this.

Feel it's a bit early for everyone that's already posting their tunes this thread should be for discussion and organisation, there isn't even anyone nominated to be choosing who gets in yet so posting your tune isn't that productive :)

Right so are people happy with having one person deal with the choosing of tracks or should it be a committee as originally thought? AfterEmpire is clearly in the running, I'd like to see this get off the ground so I'll offer myself up for this too although I would rather it was someone else as I wanna put my tunes up for it XD. Anyone else interested in helping with this side of things/being put up for nomination please post declaring so.

Don't wanna take your baby away from you OP but I feel if none starts taking control of the flow of this thing it will never happen :\ maybe edit the thread title and your initial post to make this thread more clearly about choosing the people/person who are gonna select the tunes. Then after that's sorted we can deal with figuring out the details of where it will be hosted etc and THEN after all that is sorted is when we should start listening to tunes. Feel it's very premature to have people offering their tunes at this stage where no-one knows what's happening.

paravrais is kinda right, but knowing there are ppl willing to contribute tracks is also important to know beforehand. Otherwise all the organisation was a waste. Anyway srr that i was in a hurry and posted my tunes here :p.

Think Basic A said it really, great idea. Hard execution.

How about a soundcloud group for peeps to pin their tunes to, and some forum regulars being the mods?

Any excuse to post tunes, / :u:

Good idea in principle, been tried before, good luck getting it beyond idle speculation stage.

Not being negative but have seen it before.

Yeah there's cons and pros to this too but let's make it happen I say?

I don't really have any worthy tunes to contribute but I'll help in some way.

truth
there's a couple off the top of my head that have been semi successful in my eyes
subvert central being one, both the physical vinyl releases and the free netlabel side
http://www.future-music.net/ being the other
these 2 come to mind first so def worth taking a look at that
also some netlabels started originally as forums, irc channels and the ilk (hell that's where i first met paradigm x) so it's also worth looking into the ones you dig 8bitpeoples is def one i admire in that regard as they really have banded together to make free, pay, physical, and merch happen and that's in the chiptune scene which i would dare say is smaller in scale than dubstep
(unfortunately) and i'm with paravrais on not jumping the gun and flooding this thread with demos and tune spam, check my sig etc
show interest, lets come up with a solid game plan and then come up with some sort of orderly way with clear cut criteria to submit demos and select them rather than let this devolve into the past clusterfucks it has when similar topics have arisen

exegene also worked for a while but had a bloke in charge of it all a&r, art, releases etc. Till he fell off

You really need someone to take control, A&R the whole lot, decide whos doing art etc. Deal with the arguments when your tune isnt chosen etc  i had a mad russian woman screaming at me on aim once about not being on the exegene cd.

Also, and this is happening on loads of threads, if you're trying to get stuff signed its crazy putting full length high quality versions on soundcloud etc, if i was a label why on earth would I sign something thats been flaoting around for free for ages? Keep it all private!!!!!!!! The recent MRDFK or whatever thread was the same

deadly habit wrote:lack of quality control and constant barrage of releases
i nearly wrote that exact thing but deleted it.

Giving away my inside vip to darkland was the daftest thing ive ever done, had loads on interest since but not because it was on a free release. And the bloody darkland server died just as it came out doh!
