why is anyone surprised about this article of course its going to be skewed! I'm from the US and people here are ridiculous. first of all, I'm not to sure how shows go in the UK but here its frat kids and ditsy girls who take a sip of beer and pass out. That makes up 90% of the crowd. The rest of the 10% is kids who came because they have a passion for it. 2ndly EVERYONE posts youtube links on their FB of remixes and go "AH BRAH FILTHY!". 3rdly I played a show once and i kid you not, some little scene kid walks up and goes "ah dude i love dubstep its all i listen to, is this your shit?" ( i had some datsik playing)..... 4thly kids here have the nerve to take songs and rap over them, now im not much a basher but honestly? MY fear for dubstep is it getting into some rap .. soon lil wayne or who ever the hell will be feat. someone I'm now done ranting...but really kids here in the US dont know shit about dubstep i can say in my town im 1 of 2 kids who KNOW dubstep who have a passion but i dont have bragging rights and dont know everything so i keep learning everyday i set goals to be a better producer.

Hahahaha, scene commentary by someone with little knowledge of the scene as a whole and it's roots will become increasingly more frequent as the music grows. Just a part of it all really. It's not much different to misinformed people spouting off on forums. Everyone has their own viewpoint, some have a platform to share it with the public, this isn't necessarily a measure of quality. Just the same as it's far easier to become a producer and dj now it's also far more easier to become a journalist online, again this isn't a measure of quality.




I would like to say something about the reference to the guy being american. I'm from england and have lived in nyc for the last 3 years. I have met so many people here and across the country that have a genuine love for the music and have worked there arses off based on that love to push the sound forward. It's a shame people are so quick to generalize, it's a bit like when the british government demonized people who wear caps and hoodies. It's ignorant, somewhat puritan and not a good look in general.

oh yeah i mean ive met my fair share of really dedicated people and its great!, but where im from we have alot of people who are the "miss leaders" if you will. Alot of the problem here that i notice is people dont give credit where credit is due. they will play a set and claim its their music.

sure its popular and will get more and more popular... but when it's not so mainstream anymore, sometime in the future, people will continue to make the music. those of us who really loved it to begin with anyway. and that will = better music imo

It's obviously poorly written and he hasn't got everything right (and he's American) but I see his point.

DnB/Jungle started as a sub-driven, serious music (like Dubstep) and then the sound changed and mutated into something noisy, mechanical sounding and drop-orientated which, for whatever reason, made it popular amongst a more mainstream sound (this has and is happening with Dubstep right now).

Then, when the 'new sound' gets all of the attention the people that were into the original sound become frustrated and fall out of love with it (or the particular strain that has become popular at least) and move on to different sounds (alot of people came from dnb/jungle to garage, and people are moving from "pure" dubstep into different sounds like Ramadanman, Kode9, Cosmin TRG etc. which later mutates into new genres). So basically this is happenning right now in front of all of us.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "Dubstep is dead" or anything, we all know there are producers who are still making good dubstep (Mala, Pinch, Kryptic Minds etc.) I'm just saying it's a natural progression and Dubstep probably will go the way of Drum & Bass and Garage.

That was difficult to word, but I think you get what I'm trying to say.
