This scene from John Carpenter's the thing :

If you haven't seen it go back to part 1 but the scene here from about 5 minutes in really inspired me recently. The general feel of paranoia and not knowing who to trust particularly at this point is really well done and big ups to John Carpenter for managing to make this scene work seeing there's so many people in it. I took this concept and wrote the tune - Outpost 31 in my sig.

nice thread with inspirations, but I just felt like I had to say to the original topic, that how the hell is reading about production tips/techniques &effects & synths boring? isnt it where your interest is... or else what are you doing in the production forum? :D I happen to come here to read about techniques and effects.

I think what Ledge was getting at mate is the fact that EVERY topic on this board seems to relate to technical discussions of varying degrees. Where as there are literally none relating to the more artistic side of production.

The technical topics are not boring in themselves but when they are the sole source of discussion it does get a little bit dull.

Without meaning to sound wanky, we are artists and our art is comprised of more elements than endless discussions about VST's and brickwall limiting.

meh that's what i use the offtopic boards for
seems like everytime someone asks for influences or what inspires them it turns into self whoring time for some people
plus half the time (least for me) it's hard to pinpoint the artsy fartsy side and i leave the music to convey what i can't in words or other formats

exactly what habit said, I feel like that part JFK, the really artistic side and inspiration, is pure personal.. and sure its good to share your thoughts..what inspire's who etc but that doesnt make Effects synthesis and production talk boring :6:

I didnt mean to attack anyone though

I agree mate, technical discussion isnt boring. But ENDLESS technical discussions are. Everything in moderation innit.

i can say things i draw influence from, but not pinpoint it for certain tunes and such or too production in general and hell i'd say that just in those topics you listed alone are more offtopic discussion than having place on this side of the forum

i mean honestly would you rather read a technical post or one about me going for a walk listening to say chopin , looking at cars passing by and hearing pads in my head that aren't part of the original piece or having a synesthesic moment

think it would get pretty emo round hear real quick :6:
i'm all for say inspirational tunes, movies, quotes threads, but i think past that is treading on OT posts

I guess the individual inspirations that lie behind making music are so subjective that discussing the techniques used to implement it's creation is something everyone can relate to without having to share their life story in words on a forum.

I have to agree with Abz about it not seeming technical enough around here... Really, I would do backflips to find some truely technical conversations going on on this forum, its so hard to come here and have to sort through all the stupid, philosophical, circular discussion that doesnt help anyone to find a bit of production conversation... And its not even the fact of the philosophical questions, but that its the SAME philosophical questions EVERY day from the SAME people. "What inspires you" "What motivates you too keep producing" is all anyone seems to talk about here, they grow to 20 pages of replies, and then the same people remake the thread.

Cases in point... same people... same thread.

Its a production forum, not an inspiration forum.
