there's tons of stuff out there that we can't see, i guess no one argues about that. what is very wrong is to replace what you can;t see with the products of your imagination and not discernig after some point what's imagination and what's real.
thus the only mature attitude would be accepting how little we know and make the best out of that, so we can die fucking smiling ;)

nah, he just triggered the comment, i don't know him yet.
he might be cool, my question still stands
he actually seems like a nice old man you would be lucky to have as an uncle while growing up. i feel sympathy for his points and experiences if i ignore the god bullcrap, but it's nothing i haven't already chatted with pals over a pub table

for whatever reason, religious books/people always remind me of Lord of the Rings. sometimes i feel like talking about how i need to find the ring. IT HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE!!!

Atheists can be annoying as christians though, sometimes even more.

Bigots come in all colours and creeds... it's unpleasant in both directions.

The scientific method has a really good marketing system - technology. People are surrounded every single day by hard evidence that scientists know what they're talking about. The leap of faith is a lot less than with most religious beliefs (believing in a being you will never see and may never even ever sense on the word of someone you trust is a big leap), but unless you've done a fair bit of studying, atheism is still a leap of faith for most.... even if only a fairly small one these days.

Seems best just to let people get along with it inside their own heads.

one of the 2 is very wrong
comparing someone marching for the truth with someone marching for a lie is more wrong than anything
in case it's atheists who are right, considering how marginal their voice is, their fight for making themselves heard is even more justified. so in no way comparable with the other side
so your point of view is fundamentally wrong. and harmful if it spreads

Watched this last night...
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/religulous/

It was mainly cheap shots at unintelligent extremists, but still many lolz to be had. The bit where the senator said "You don't need to take an IQ test to become senator" cracked me up.

that's your problem, you can't call them otherwise when they make less than 5-10% in most countries

the shots you talk about are a bit cheap indeed, but those dudes represent for the majority so it's quite correct actually. and what's really good about the film is the rational points it makes... overall i think its quite delicious

it's hardly a "problem".

their voice is more heard now than ever before. in reality, if there is in fact a "problem" it's their own foolish assumptions that their voice is marginal.

that's compared with themselves, not with the rest of the voices
as proven by the OP itself

"When you seek true love you do not go to a prostitute. When you truly seek God, you do not go to an institution that makes business by claiming to represent God. Do you think that God needs a proxy?"

Religion v atheism v spirituallity

Only significant way forward in my opinion

..And lets not v :|

maybe people are finally realizing organized religion and fanaticism is the reason for the majority of the problems in the world
i'll remain believing in a power beyond mine or any of sciences current understanding since we haven't even explored our entire world, let alone come close to understanding the universe, even the galaxy we live

this is a really good panel if you have a free hour
dawkins i like, but he's a jackass at the same time
also i agree vehement atheists are just as annoying as their religious counterparts

let alone what i wrote above, mixing up attributes of the message with personal attributes of the guy who puts out the message is what's wrong in 99% of the debates here
dawkins' message is not any bit less valuable and correct because the way his attitude is perceived by some. same for everyone
public perception is a slut!
truth is truth

putting on the same level vehement atheists and vehement religious people because they share qualities like "annoying" or other irrelevant idiocy is wrong and harmful

thinking people shouldn't be vehement when it comes about vitally essential truth is totally stupid and actually the lack of vehemence in this regard keeps us ignorant, ignorance keeps us fearful and fear keeps us under control

moderates are a plague when it comes about truth!
god exists or it doesn't, there is no moderate version about it.

when that vehemence leads to prejudice and bigotry when both sides just are seeking an answer to what is unknown and ultimately a quest for our own mortality and the world around us...
people have the right to pursue what makes them happy as long as it's not affecting others
science is constantly evolving theories and disproving previous discoveries and i doubt in my lifetime there will be definitive proof of the meaning of life
not all religious people believe in an omnipotent god either
the quest for the answers is what makes us human
wasting your life arguing about who is right when there is no definitive answer for either side is just that, a waste
things aren't always black and white
