Indeed, anyone who is making DANCE music should be putting into practice the fact the rhythm will 95% of the thing what makes people dance and get into the track.

Think I prefer Neros' beat ability.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

how are u supposed to manipulate groove/velocity with a step sequencer, though?

I never understood this. btw i'm only familiar with reDrum, not FL. but... isn't it kind of just a really dumbed down, looped MIDI editor? dunno why you'd opt for one of those just cuz it has square light-up buttons instead of red rectangles on a p-roll ; p

in redrum you have some buttons on the unit that change the hit velocity, think there are 3 options, soft middle and hard or something. You also have a velocity button on each channel in redrum. Or, from the piano roll you can draw in the velocity changes.

Fl has many ways to change the velocity from the step sequencer also.

Yeah FL has a velocity button on the top right hand corner of the drum sequencer. And I'll have to agree that it is really easy to program 4 or even 8 bar drum loops. From time to time I do dabble in the fpc for laying out some beats (because you can arrange the hits in the piano editor) but it's whatever you're comfortable with.

About the 1 & 3 comment it was a joke because if you listen to most dubstep (including brostep mostly) its 1, 3, and maybe a hat or something on every 8th note.

And I'm really digging the whole 3/4 kick pattern right now (rusko style) which adds some more shuffle and movement than the 1 & 3 kick snare.

^^^ darn ur right, not everybody has to use samples... a lot of people use synths too...( including myself :S ... i make a lot of rythmic synth patches... ) ...

ahahah

some people could pretty much function with synths only.. thx ! I still feel like u could get the point im trying to make in my post tho :D ...

.....

now about FL.. fls step sequencer is very much evolved and i love it. there isnt only velocity control in the corner.... if u go to the upper right corner of its window, u can open a param menu for each channel that allows u to manipulate discrete pitch, velocity, pan, cut, res and shift for each notes that are drawn. simply scroll from left to right to change params... shift allows u to move ur sounds around in smaller increments instead of whole steps...

that + fls ultra powerful browser will have u getting crazy grooves in no time...

fl is a really really good groove construction machine. i miss it. :'(

also, if u ever come across a step sequencer that u feel is not flexible enough... another thing u could do is double the tempo and benefit from a higher resolution from the step sequencer (twice as precise)...

... dont hate on the strawberry

That sounds even worse than kick 1 snare 3. :u:

Like the most basic, thoughtless drum beat you could make.

Or we could be like gabber and put a kick on every 1/16. Lots of life in those kicks. To each his own.

Agree. I jerk it to Benga's drums. Can't believe I didn't like him when I first started listening.

True say.

I've been making drums like Scuba non stop lately, all garagey swing and found sounds. Latch :U:
