wow total FAIL der shud be some way of demoting people who give shit advice!!

I use logic and ableton. Ableton for my own music recording mixing mastering others etc and logic for my college work...for this semester anyway. Logic is great its plugins are excellent and sound gr8 the amount of control over your fine editing and the detail in the daw is top notch but at the same time its like a fuckin old mans program its not inspiring and its not musical and its so much slower and harder to do things in...its the programmers choice and if you like programming your music its prob the 1 to go for. If you like to play your music then its not even a contest ableton wins hands down instant musical and inspiring easy to use and easy to really explore and figure out crazy shit...cant remember the last time ive seen a creative application of logic to make music...other than the standard stuff...gets a lil boring programing and a bored musician = boring music!
i dont care what you think you go to college to learn music you cant learn music

3osc is were loefah makes his bassline you need 3osc to make dubstep

every one knows that fl is the best daw for dubstep stop kidding yourself

dude your a cigarette so find a pole and sit on it

i dont do music in college im doing a media course yeah der tends to be a bit of audio work...and i cud nt agree more no one needs to go to college to learn music but if you want a career you need a degree. as soon as you say the words 'every1 knows' your a knob box...as soon as you think you ve got it figured out you can bet your ass you dont. You dont buy a daw for its synths you buy it for how it arranges and edits music the best synths in most cases are plug in and you certainly dont buy a daw cause of 1 type of music grow up. seriously dont reply save the thread and the forum and your self respect!!!

I dont use 3osc or FL...so what genre is my music?!

@OP. There is no best DAW. Period. Each one suits different people. It's true a lot of people producing dubstep use FL, but a lot also use Cubase, a lot use Logic, a lot use Live, a lot use Reason...

Try the demo's see which one you like and works best with you, after that worry about what synths and samples you need, check the threads out on here

if you want quality inbuilt plugins: logic. it's mental, really. i would buy a mac just to have logic back but well.... money ;)
as a windows user just stick to reaper. why spend 100's of bucks on in-built plugins if you can simply use the unlimited trial of reaper and spend the money on komplete instead? it's what i did and i don't think i'll need anything else software-wise no more. they're both quite similar to cubase structure-wise too, so you won't have to re-learn everything from the start.

Get Nuendo and rewire it with reason. Works nice :4:

Going to start off by saying I'm a complete Abe nut.

Been using Ableton for years now but I have used others before.
Cubase/Innuendo are excellent in their own right, done a course on them.
Fruity Loops is also good but with all the bits and bobs, does not help my migraines.
Ableton is pretty straight forward but can almost seem a little "Boring" after a while.

I recommend using any of them of course!

Ok so thanks everyone for the suggestions. Defintely worth it as I was pretty set on Live or Cubase but thanks to Cloak & Dagger for the Studio One suggestion - this is by far the best option for me as far as I can tell. Very impressed! Will do some serious testing and let you know what i think of the demo...

And whoever it was that started a reply with 'everyone knows' - you're a twat. Any DAW has the potential to create brilliant music - it's how you use it.

not really, your post was bollocks. what's making music in a creative way? isn't any artform creative in itself? are you just ragging on logic because it doesn't have a modular session view like ableton, something which none of the other DAWs have? (technically seq24 has a similar modular view but not sure that can qualify as a DAW)

you're supposed to be the creative one not the program.

Ok so if things get working for me quicker in ableton over logic its a question of how creative i am not the avenues the program offers to let me express my creativity? All i can say is that my experience has been that logic is more of a chore than other programs to do the thing i want it to do. Maiking music in a creative way - the likes of max for live...follow actions and dummy clips ableton as a sequencer...the amazing routing possibilities and the ease to explore...building instruments and audio effects from scratch ive just learned alot more creative ways of making music in live than logic is all. Logic for me seems to be the patch generation of music as opposed to the really digging deep and figuring computer music out. (Nothing here is bible nor do i think it is just my current opinion which will prob be different this time next year).

Ok so side question from my original - I'm still debating what PC to get, ie. what processor and RAM.

An i5 processor with 6GB is what i'm thinking as I want enough power for it to last some time. Would 4GB be enough??

I'll bounce or freeze tracks often in order to save processing power, but would 4GB be enough if I want 3-4 VST instruments playing, a few audio tracks, a number of effects running etc????????

Also, is ebuyer / ebay the best place to go? Haven't bought a computer in some time!
thanks people!

Most pc's you buy nowadays are expandable to at least 8GB, and i've never had any trouble with 4 GB, so i think you 're ok.

IMHO (and lots of others have a different take, but this is mine) you should stay clear the fuck away from eBay. If you get burned by the seller and the seller has a big enough account with 'em it'll be like pulling teeth to get it settled in your favor. I got scammed by two different sellers, reported it, and got ruled against both times with zero explanation. I will never, ever do business with them again.

yes it is all about you.

loads of people hate working with ableton.
