I never even realised that's what you're supposed to do, I don't think a lot of people did. I thought it was for 'out of bounds' stuff.deadly habit wrote:christ how did this hit 16 posts with no one reporting it
protip: it's good to let em know of the rules, but it does no good if you don't report the post so it can be locked/deleted by the mods

Re: FIRST Attempt at a track FEEDBACK please
Unlike some of the biters in this forum, I tend not to jump on the "attack the n00b" bandwagon unless I see a good enough reason to. You broke a forum rule. Shit happens - and the folks who have nothing better to do with their time than bitch about the natural progression of shit happening have issues of their own to sort out.unknown86 wrote:Hey i just started this track yesterday its not finished but i think its ok for my first track wanted to get some feedback though thanks.
I gave your work-in-progress a listen. For a first attempt, I'll say that it 's a lot better than my first try at Dub was. That's probably not saying much, and I don't represent myself as a Dubstep prodigy by any means.
That said: Your intro sounds "empty", as does your breakdown. I'd venture to say that has something to do with the use of the single, "flat" instrument that doesn't do much beyond repeat the same five notes over & over, with nothing to "spice it up". It fails to give the track any "character". Your bass is interesting; electro-ish, but with the potential to have some real grime in there.
Your sound effects - reverse cymbals and such, as well as your snare - need some effects tossed on 'em: reverb and maybe some delay. Without it, there's no "depth" or "space" to the track, and your buildups end awkwardly and abruptly. Everything - and I mean everything - in the track needs to be equalized. There's something about the kick that just rubs me the wrong way, and that snare sounds flat.
Also, after the breakdown, try to change things up a bit. I don't hear or otherwise sense any real change or evolution at any point in listening - just the same droning bassline, interrupted briefly by an awkward breakdown, and then returning to the same.
I did like that little drum-fill you threw in there. It took me a long time to figure out fills and drum breaks.
If I were to line it up with the production efforts of seasoned Dubstep artists, I would have to give this a 2/10. Considering, however, that you're new to writing music, and this is your first track ever (if I understood you correctly), I'll give you a 5- or 6/10, for the things you got right, plus the effort.
You have a LOT more learning to do, a lot more practice, research, and work ahead of you. Trial-and-error is going to be your best teacher, and I hope you take this critique/advice in the spirit it was intended.
Also, the guys who reamed your ass for not reading the rules of the forum were right in doing so (even if they do get a little excessive, and take some shit too seriously at times). Next time, be sure you read the rules of the forum you're posting in. They're there for a reason; and if you're not going to adhere to the standards or rules of the forum, you can't reasonably expect anyone to do you any favors.

yep otherwise the mods don't know unless they read the boards, they have lives too you know and unless it's reported things slip through the cracks. there's even a category for stuff like this in the drop down as offtopictherapist wrote:I never even realised that's what you're supposed to do, I don't think a lot of people did. Re: FIRST Attempt at a track FEEDBACK please
WHEN WE DON'T GIVE FEEDBACK TO PEOPLE POSTING TRACKS IN THE WRONG PLACE IT ISN'T TO BE DICKS FOR NO REASON IT'S BECAUSE IF YOU GIVE FEEDBACK TO ONE PERSON IT MAKES THE NEXT N00B THAT COMES ALONG THAT MUCH MORE LIKELY TO DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING.
For fucks sake, is this really not locked yet? This thread is making me loose my icey cool exterior.
