metal step
I hardly disagree about that.ozols man wrote:didnt really read this thread, but all i got to say is distorted guitars in dubstep production need to be avoided at all costs
Personally I has allways shared an passion for both electronic music and rock.
Pitchshifter blended metal guitars back with drum'n'bass beats back in the late 90's.
And lots of this hard noise many people associate with metal is these days in lots of dubstep.
So in my opinion it's just an natural development and I hope more rockgroups will be inspired in the future to mix it.

metal elements in dubstep is great and makes a lot of sense imo
however i dont think a full on hybrid would work, metal has never done other sounds proud when it approaches it as an element within it, (nu-metal, pitchshifter etc.) I dont know why it just always comes off half baked commercial and cheesy. I love metal and hip hop but the combination of the 2 was swaaag to the highest

also check 'ska' by distance and his early release on hot flush if you can track it called 'nomad'/'3rd wish'.
i guess by now you're getting the picture though- BUY SOME DISTANCE
thing is i didnt think of any rock related genres when listening to that tune, but it literally sounds kinda jagged and metal...

Ah! ive started a debate, i dont think that 'metalstep' should b a new genre, that would b poo...i was just trying to describe a style of dubstep... i reckon its a good progression that should b explored tho, i think it just opens more scope to play with different sounds rather than just sticking to the electronic or reggae feel.
i like it...

I don't mind if it's good. It's odd cause last year I did mention that I thought a lot of halfstep had a doom metal vibe to it (darkness, heaviness, etc) so it doesn't seem to be that odd a pairing.
Be good to see Poax perfecting his death grunt at DMZ too (not actual death grunt, the grindcore "singing" style)
DnB's mostly been doing it's own variation on thrash metal for years anyway
