It's easy to write something that sounds like it could be played in a club by a DJ. But it's hard to make something you yourself enjoy, I suppose.

Whenever I think production is too easy I later regret the idea because I was just not seeing the bigger picture.

Bingo.

Sure - anyone can pick up a DAW and start pushing shit together (in fact that's why guys like NI provide soooo many samples and presets!), but it takes a lot of practise to write something musical, with complimenting synths, and good song structure. It's even harder to make something you have in your head (really only the pros are able to do this).

Its as easy or hard as you want it to be, although if you think its simple I suggest you develop better critical listening skills. Or possibly compare yourself to the people at the top of their field, not people whose names you have already forgotten. Also it is easy to confuse the impact of the production with composition/ sounddesign/ melody etc, I cant really differentiate in stuff that I consider "well produced".

^very true. The line between musician, composer, producer, mixing engineer, recording engineer, sound designer, synthesist, and gods know what else is so blurred its frustrating.

It's easy for anyone to get a random song sounding "professional" because they can download a sample pack of pre-processed hits and sounds, along with warezing every plugin out there and googling "datsik/skrillex/etc bass tutorial" and mashing it all together in a cliche template.

It's hard to actually start at square one and learn every bit of your kit, what every parameter in each plugin does and how to write an interesting and unique song.

In short, good mixdowns are easier now than they used to be, writing good songs will always be a challenge.

creating crap tunes and spamming them to people via any of the dozens of available internet avenues... is too easy.

writing a good song is as much of a challenge as it ever was, regardless of tools.

Production is like sex...

Most people can do it...

But not many are great at it, and only a few get paid for it.

It is easy! I thought this production stuff was going to be hard, so I took the challenge..

Now I find myself creating wobble basses in like 10 minutes .. using Massive. :middlefinger: :glasses: :dunce: :corntard: :q: ................. :i:

The production bible is useless, this whole forum is useless, because producing is as easy as BAM ,,,1..2..3 ! HIGH QUALITY SHIT MY N8GG8H :rules: :rules: :mrt: :vader:

And that was pretty much typical - all the good producers I know who came up around that time either took 5 - 10 years to get to that level, or they worked their way up from tape-op in a pro studio and did it in 3 - 5 years.
i'd argue it takes roughly the same amount of time nowadays though, if you look at an average. maybe it's faster at the beginning, but the market's saturated with hundreds of tunes. sure you might get on rung 1 or 2 of the ladder, but very few make it to the top quick.

anyone can put shit on a grid, thats easy. Making a track that people like is the hard part.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

i think its easier to "get in" to production these days, people are more aware of how to go about it and with all the warez and torrents these days, any old mofo can get a DAW and mess around.
i wouldnt say its easy to produce though, ive been at it like 2 years now and im learning everyday. i wouldnt say my tracks are anywhere near the standard id want them to be.
it makes me laugh how people who have been producing like a month are eager to throw shit tracks on to the internet to get themselves out there...its like how can they not tell thats DIRE -r-

hahah, i agree with pesky, been producin for like 2 years now n i feel im progressin more everytime i sit down at the computer. i used to always wanna get my tracks out there on a rapid, n get track after track done on a quicktime but nowadays i usually spend sooo much longer on em, some even 2-3 months just because i wanna get everything exactly how i want it, although that rarely happens which is why i never seem to finish tracks.
like most ppl are sayin, its easy to get into but hard to perfect

So the 23/24 hours a day I put into getting better at this is wasted then, because I should be getting presets, fuck man, If only I'd known four years ago.
A conglomeration of my old tearout tunes I like, and my new ones I don't
