they don't do it necessarily to keep themselves on edge, they do it merely to show fans that they are still around making music in the slightest sense. so people don't think they have merely fallen off
you can't keep touring forever without coming out with new material, instead of pure original productions, its a good change of pace to do remixes of pop artists.

alpha centauri was super played out to begin with anyways, that track was getting played by every big name dj way back in feburary and march. so releasing it honestly doesn't mean much.
the only difference with the release is the extended intro they put in it.
im telling you noisia remixed katy perry for a laugh, they wanted to see how far they could take their remixing ability, this remix though is average at best and that is a little too modest to be fair, all they have been doing as of late are remixes, they honestly don't need the recognition or money from them at all, even if the remixes go number 1 on beatport the amount of money their gonna take from it is nothing compared to what they make weekly from gigs, they also make tons more money than other acts by having each member tour on their own around the world selling out shows as noisia but not having all three members present at every gig.

Right. Sorry but there's no logic to it whatsoever. Ever thought about being nr1 on beatport means more gigs? that may work in other industries, but noisia didn't make a name for themselves by remixing big names, they made a name by making original productions and molding their own trademark sounds that everyone in the dnb scene can relate to.
being number 1 on beatport only gets you gigs these days if your an up and coming producer,(skrillex) for example, he isn't the only example of this, their are others. noisia have been around for a cool minute. they built a name for themselves because producers who have been in the dnb/ jungle scene for years can appreciate and play their tunes out because they are indeed some of the most talented producers spanning any genre.
and you don't get respected in the scene by remixing pop acts, you get recognized by remixing OTHER BIG ELECTRONIC NAMES successfully, or making original productions that other artists can appreciate, which is what noisia has done. this isn't the only way of course, but remixes are a quick way of getting recognized.
noisia doesn't need beatport to prove their worthy of anything, and they don't need to remix pop acts either.
take for example the remixes that skrillex has done, LADY GAGA, BENNY BENASSI, LA ROUX. skrillex did these remixes because he wanted his fan base to be as diverse and mainstream as possible and to get notoriety as well, similar to what you were talking about.

Right, well you keep changing the reasons, no point in discussing it really. i'm not talking about respect, i'm talking about money and the fact that remixing madonna and robbie williams opens doors. You think about what noisa needs, or how their street cred is.That's all a bit speculative. The fact remains, the music industry works in certain ways. Like you say, to stay a drum and bass trio they don't need to remix these crappy commerical artists. But i think they have more ambition that 'just' being a dnb artist.

im not changing reasons. they don't need to remix pop acts but they do it anyway
