and that is the problem. even if you were to reduce the defense budget by a considerable amount you'd still be spending more than the next few top countries combined and have way more than enough to be "safe"... on top of that, it certainly wouldn't hurt if taxes were brought to a reasonable level for the top few percent. warren buffet pays a lower percentage of income tax than his secretary FFS. that's not right.

Certainly not as clued up as you on this, but I'm sure this is an issue of "something is better than nothing". It's a shame, but it's not likely that his secretary will up and move to another country and pay tax, but if tax is too high for a billionaire, they have the means to leave to somewhere that will accept lower tax. Unfortunately, this is surely exploited, but (I know these aren't the correct figures) 10% of a billion is better than 30% of 20,000.

I don't understand why people should choose between spending on what they like and having decent healthcare. Rich people don't have to budget to guarantee decent healthcare, neither should anyone else.

The government could also easily have the best state-run healthcare in the world if it prioritized too.

100% agree but if you prioritize it you compromise something else

The problem with americans is that we want to have our cake and eat it too. Most americans wouldnt give up what it would take to get said healthcare because we all live in the short term.

We aren't sick today, so we don't want to give up our high speed internet because we like to play WoW and counterstrike.

Our country isn't willing to give up its defense spending because it would require us to act like normal human beings instead of the arrogant pricks we are now.

That's because rich people are rich and you are not

So you need to choose between things you need and things you want They don't have to budget for housing, food, or any other necessity in life.

The problem with the world today is that everyone wants to live rich and feels they are entitled to the luxuries of being rich.

Most of us are not rich so we have to prioritize. We have to choose paying our rent over buying a yacht. We have to decide if we want a subscription to bangbus or if we want to buy groceries. You may have to pass up your weekly blowjob from a hooker in order to pay your electricity bill.

If you view helathcare as a necessity you need to treat it like the other necessities in your life.

Apparently you do not know how to read.

I'm saying that internet, tv, cell phones, and excess transportation are WANTS. Healthcare is a NEED. and if you spent $300 a month less on WANTS you would have $300 to spend on NEEDS.

You follow? I have no idea where you got the idea of 'a good society' my guess is you were skimming over, saw some numbers, stopped reading, and then started chatting shit.

In today's society, a cell phone could arguably be considered a need. The Washington Post did an article a few years back about how a lot of homeless people have cell phones for job hunting purposes. It might seem counter-intuitive, but you can't very well get a call back from an employer without a phone.

The TV statistic doesn't really mean anything. The TV I own cost me $20.

$7.25/hour is the federal minimum for people who don't make tips, a few states have it higher.
