I use ohmicide to get the distortion and also use a lot of modulating effects like a phaser and flanger and if you have another filter like a wow filter use it and automate the cutoff. its really all about the effects change that gives it the moving effect

oh lawd i just noticed we have the same combi patch :6:
either loki's tutorial or we both are using bp at the end of the chains :cornlol:
it's the tutorial ;-)
i tried fiddling around with a vocoder in your project file and got some sick (and definetly state of the art neuro) sounds, but only for split-seconds when the bandpass and my tweaking of the shift knob fit together perfectly. cba to make matching automation for the vocoder tonight as i'm REALLY pissed from not finding any good drum samples on my HDD which killed my production buzz but i'll try and upload something tomorrow.

try it, you'll like it! ;-) it's definetly the key to all sorts of current neuro sounds.

modulate everything!and I think a reese is def a good place to start, even if its not the only option

Tried using a flanger? with the corect settings, you could get a nice raw dry sound, like tearing stuff

Here's what I mean
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

meh... sometimes i wish i had started seriously learning production 3 years earlier.
i spent the last hours listening to lots of different dnb tracks trying to find any clues to that modern sound, and i suddenly had the thought that... most moving reese sounds are fairly simple, the real difficulty lies in getting the filter automation right. but these sounds have been the foundation of darker dnb basslines for about a decade. and exactly at the end of that decade i figure the whole thing out. now we have those new, more organic basslines. and i know by the time i figure out the techniques the innovators from way back will have moved on already. it's frustrating, really.

sometimes i even have the thought of a giant conspiracy of bass music producers, sharing all their knowledge on secret message boards or something

anyway, i'm now 100% sure vocoders are involved in a lot of sounds. i also think granular pitchshifted sounds can add a lot of throaty high-end to a tune.
example of vocoder on bassline

with this i'm just guessing but i think there could be granulized samples on top of that bass

and inb4 "you should rather spend the time finding your own style", i'm dead serious when i say that i don't want to make any kind of dark neurofunky music. however i want to understand the sounds, that desire was what got me into production in the first place back then

@Hasezweis: Yea i know what you mean,, sometime i wish i could go back 10 or 5 years knowing what i know now about music production, but so is life ^^ i always liked neurofunk (before that genre name came about... seriously wtf? its dnb ><) , and its only now that im getting round to understanding its basslines more. But if we learn the things we like eventually we can mix it all together as youl be there with your hiphopbass-to-neurofunk-quaterstep tracks and il be doing my -trance-neurofunk-quaterstep stuff. laughin about how it used to be.

wtf dude literally 5 minutes ago when i was cooking i thought about making a quarterstep dnb track with a hip-hop like loose feel to the drums for the battle royale, incorporating the reese techniquees i learnt this weekend. :o

but yeah i just remembered, i'm only almost 19 so there's looooooooooots of time left to catch up with the big ones.
for now i should rather worry about finally graduating

19???!!! God Im old!!!!!!! You got plenty of time, im jealouse even, back when i was 19 fl studio was fruity loops there was no youtube, and i honestly thought you needed hardware to make the reese sounds or at least a hardware synth. I still feel i have stuff to learn!
- ooo quaterstep dnb , we should co-lab on that .. ..19 so you must have missed all the Scranz/hardtrance awseomness that was kicking about in germany! Tunnel trance , Traxxx, love festival! war soooo geil alter! Was mit dem kiffen und dem hartkore beats!

still doesn't mean reeces are bad eh? ;)
idk, i currently think about layering some granulized and timestretched shit with a classic filtered reese, somehow involve a vocoder (but that has to wait until i find one i'm willing to buy, all i want is a really good formant shifting function) and i guess that's it.
i'm not a fan of modulating wavetables or overly screechy and fucked up sounds, and i couldnt imagine making a neuro bassline out of squares :?
shaping sines and FM is something i haven't really gotten into yet but i suppose that's more for the youngsta/icicle/joker d type basses (see the vid, it's just a guess though. i have NO IDEA how they do those basses)
If you use massive, make a new sound, then change the 1st osc to a sine wave, then, go into the Modulation Oscilator, turn on phase mod on osc , then change the semitones to 12, then get an envelope an put on the phase knob, and make sure the blue part of the env is on the phase knob, and turn the knob all the way to the left, then turn the blue part up to about 9 oclock, then mess around with the envelope ;-)

for this i just made a reese in z3ta, added some distortion and a flanger, and automated a filter. don't overdo it with effects or you can lose power easily, everyone says to pile on the effects. also use small wet levels of the effects , not a shitton of distortion at once but a little bit more with each distortion unit if you get what im saying.

my thoughts exactly, i had been using Absynth untili found out, which is odd, because i was acheiving the same sounds from absynth using waveshapers on sine waves :S

Ps, the phase mod in massive, is actually an FM knob

fuuuuuuuuck yeah. what kind of filter did you use? a notch? i've tried using bp filters but i end up with a weak muddy mess most of the time :?

Any idea how I'd do this using albino3?

hell yeah, maybe the next battle royale could be a team battle (but i doubt we get enough contestants together :6: ) WE'D TOTALLY SMASH IT BLUD!

and yeah schranz is pretty much over, there is still a vibrant undeground scene though. it's not really my cup of tea but i went to a schranz rave couple months ago and the dj's were mental! i cant seem to find any decent tunes on the net though... it's a very closed scene with lots of unreleased material being played.
at the moment people here are still into minimal and detroit techno, and strangely there's still acid raves. never been to one so far but i'll definetly try that out (not without ear protection though :6: ).

Sadly, i havnt found a decent way of making the sound, i'm not getting along with albinos FM capabilities, they just dont seem to work for me, but i'm sure if you played around you could find something like, its just a sine wave, with slight fm modulation :)

@arktrix

I'm having problems following your instructions. Is it possible to upload a screenshot of your Massive preset. Thanks a lot!
