iirc, Richie August coined brostep in like...late 08? Because he was starting up his Brotown label :cornlol:

not really

the hipsters into electronic music that are old enough to grow beards are into Washed Out, Neon Indian, Memory Tapes, etc and only listen to that because the nugaze bandwagon is full
blog house in 2008 -> chillwave in 2009 -> witchhouse in 2010 -> ??? in 2011

fate lays in the hands of the pitchfork gods

did witchouse really catch on?

this year they seem hellbent on making The Weekend into stars and could see them trying to force an internet sub genre out of their sound.

Something R&B with EDM mixed together. R&E or something typical of pitchfork.

i wish R&B stood for Rhythym and BASS so it could be used as an umbrella term to describe alot of what i listen to.

chillwave is basically the artists I listed above and it's a terrible term imo

How do people have this image of dubstep anyway?

how do you know that they are as bad as the people they are taking the piss out of, when you only have these characters they are portraying to base it on? thats like saying steve coogan is an arrogant, misogynist imbecile based on watching mid morning matters

No because Coogan is intelligent with his humour and can create characters separate from himself.

These guys just come across as unfunny hipsters trying to take the piss out of hipsters in some painfully ironic way. It annoys me.

mmm i guess coogan is an extreme example, and granted this is of nowhere near the same comedy calibre, but still you have no idea whether these characters are separate from them or not so seems a bit unfair to assume that they are hipsters just because they are portraying hipsters. IMO they do it fairly accurately, albeit slightly exaggerated - which is surely the point of parody.

witchhouse, like aquacrunk, is another example of music journalists not understanding that you write about existing scenes, not make up a funny term and group some artists together.

and yeah they're going crazy over people using r&b samples like it's the dawn of a new genre or something

He does make good music, but he really is hipster. From what I've seen the most "hipster" artists are Blake, Burial, and Mount Kimbie. Case in point:

We might not have the same definition for hipster... But let's leave it to this :)

I think the thing with James Blake is that he's more of a singer/songwriter now than the siq producer his fans (including myself) grew to luv. I wanna hear more shit like the Stop What You're Doing remix and less shit like the Wilhelm Scream.

Which could be seen as selling out or pandering to indiefaigs, but I remember reading in an interview or something that he planned to come out with and mainly focus on his straight up organic music eventually, anyway. So it's not like it's something he has been disingenuous about.

I'm not saying he is hipster, he's just popular among hipsters. Not a bad thing, just a trend I notice.

these days I'm pretty skeptical of anyone with a beard, glasses, or anyone wearing slim fit jeans. Beards itch, contacts are far superior, and no one can honestly say slim fit jeans are comfortable.

Slim fit jeans are comfortable. It's like someone is hugging my balls 24/7
